Though I may not agree, it doesnt bother me. I figure it fits with the characters though because the ones that say the comments seem pretty progressive in their lifestyles.
I hope that Claire ends up with this guy. He seems like a good guy compared to her other psychotic/emotionally troubled boyfriends.
Politics should not make or break a relationship. If she dumps him for that, then she deserves another Billy.

I agree. I was actually looking for it as she strolled down her path alone and was a little disappointed when it didn't happen.
I agree that her scene shooting her previous husbands/boyfriends was a little too light hearted for the episode. I was thinking she would come to Nathaniel and wouldn't be able to shoot him and was kind of sad when she did (since I love his character so much...and thought she still did at least a little).
No one has mentioned David's "lioness and her cubs" line. My wife and I laughed long and hard at that one. David...always the female in his relationships.
The writers truly made Nate's character a complete and utter dick. He was my favorite character on this show (along with Nathaniel & Arthur) but after last season and this one...I couldn't care less that he died. I have shed many tears over the life of this show but not even a sniffle last night. I was even with him up to the point of when he showed up at Brenda's home beaten & crying but after that...downhill.
I am definitely glad to see this show ending. The writing is still good and the characters are still interesting. Nice to see it go out still near the top of its game.
Next week: I think Ruth is going to lose it. Her being gone all during Nate's demise is really going to fuck with her head I think. And I am sure we will see a good bit of Nate hanging around still talking to all the characters until the last episode ala Nathaniel.

Nate came through with flying colors which is something that just doesn't happen on this show.

I wasn't shocked to see Nate die, but I wasn't moved either. Like a few others, I began to seriously dislike Nate. I actually thought "about time." On a side note:
I really think the girl who plays Maya is incredibly adorable! When she yelled "Daddy!" that's when I got a lump in my throat.
Claire was also really great in this episode. She's the only other character I really cared for.

Nate has probably had the biggest change in character from season 1 to now of any character on the show. He has gone through complete hell over the seasons and it has apparently changed him (for the worse). I still liked his character the best and his death was a sad moment for me.

Great episode! Glad I watched it live...I have been Tivo'ing them and watching later, but the office is already buzzing about it. Would have sucked to have it spolied by a loud cube neighbor. (Yes, I live the hell Claire is currently visiting. "Nate's dead? Yeah baby..." Ugh!)
I don't understand all the "non-love" for Nate. Still thought he was a great character/guy. My GF was shocked to see him go. I had a feeling someone would die this last season, but wasn't sure who. Nate was the odds on favorite of course.
I didn't realize until later that Ruth had missed the entire hospital stay. Guess I was reeling from the Nate stuff still. How awful for her. That's gonna drive her nuts.
So...they made it a point to show that the married partner has the say in death arrangements. (Rico's comments about the "I think she's divorced" skater last week.) Is a just "dumped" Brenda gonna be able to handle these arrangements? The preview shows
Add to that Nate's talk in the meeting about his will saying cremate but he want's a green burial. Will there be a battle over this stuff?

As for calling Nate a dick, I was not just referring to him dumping Brenda in this episode but really his character all the way back to his first AVM (is that the right initials?). Think about it. He has a few warm moments in various episodes over the years but really has been a jerk since then.
Maybe the writers wanted to show how an AVM can truly affect someone's personality and slowly had him become more of an asshole the longer he lived?

But, who knows, maybe she will continue her self-destruction and push him away.

I think politics can very much break relationship. How can you build life with someone whos views go against everything you believe in? Besides, how can you build a family with a person that doesn't share your ideals?

'Six Feet Under' Kills Off Nate Fisher
2 hours, 29 minutes ago
LOS ANGELES - Nate Fisher, the reluctant mortuary owner in HBO's "Six Feet Under," will be making personal use of the family business.

Played in the drama series by
Peter Krause, Nate died Sunday after suffering a brain hemorrhage. The ending was a shocker for Nate's relatives as well as viewers — earlier in the episode, doctors had offered reassurances he would survive.
Initially in a coma, Nate had recovered enough to be able to tell his pregnant wife, Brenda (Rachel Griffiths), that he had decided to leave their troubled marriage.
Later, while brother David (Michael C. Hall) is visiting with him at the hospital, both fall asleep and share a dream that they're on a surfing trip with their late dad. When David awakens, he finds Nate has died.
The same brain condition that led to Nate's death, identified in the series as an arteriovenous malformation, had been diagnosed once before in a past episode and treated with surgery. This time, Nate wasn't so lucky.
His fate may have been hinted at in a preseason online HBO interview with executive producer Alan Poul, in which Poul said the there would be "darker turns for some people and lighter turns for others" as the series' fifth and final season. There are three episodes left.
In preview scenes from next week's episode,

Great episode.
I knew something was up when Nate mentioned that he's tired of fighting, and when the last dream sequence started - I was anticipating his death.
It's sad to see Nate go, but I guess we were warned a couple seasons ago when he first had AVM - and it just played through until now.
I expected Ruth to die at some point, and I guess it's still possible.
Next week's episdoe should be heart-breaking. Not sure if we'll get to see the reactions of everyone just finding out that Nate died, or if they'll jump ahead a day or two.
I'm guessing Ruth will take it the hardest, as she may blame herself for not being there. In fact she never got to be there when both Nate Sr. and Nate Jr. passed away - so that has to be tough.
I'm looking forward to at least seeing Nate in the other character's dreams.
