Duet anyone?
One of my favorite episodes, I remember getting chills watching that one unfold so many years ago.
Watching Kira and the Cardassian circle each other was great drama.

Watching Battlestar Galactica makes me realize the vision that Ron Moore had for Voyager, and Voyager could have been radically different from previous Trek shows.

And whoever mentioned the Ferengi episodes gets a
from me. Any time an episode focused on Quark I knew I was in for a good hour of television.

When I went through the box sets, all of which I picked up on half.com btw, I was surprised by how much better the first season was than I remembered it but nothing could compare to what followed. Behr, Pillar, Moore and the rest of the writing staff went in some amazing directions not just for Trek but for science fiction TV as well.
Anyone else think that in her day Terry Farrell would have made a kick-ass Wonder Woman?

My favorite episode is "Civil Defense" from season 3. That's where O'Brian and Jake trip a security alarm and an old Cardasian automated defense system kicks in and takes control of the station. That episode had some of the best Garak and Dukat moments from the entire series. I always thought those two played off each other very well.

All this talk has reminded me how much I miss this show...This is easily my fav all time show, and havent seen it in over 3 years. I know they are expensive, but I think Im going to try and get all the season to own now. I have curtailed alot of my dvd spending this year, and not a big fan of owning much tv on dvd, but I think this is now a must own for me.

Unfortunately, DS9 also has one of my least favorite eps ever... that one where they go to Risa and Worf decides to join in with a band of fun-terrorists and ruin everyone's vacation (Let He Who Is Without Sin... also season 5). What a total waste of time and it went against established character traits on numerous occasions.

What was the ep where they land(crash?) on a planet on the other side of the wormhole that resurrects you when you die due to some virus? There were two armies at war who kept killing each other and coming back to life only to kill each other again. I remember there being a Bajoran woman who was a religious leader and a regular character. After that ep, she was no longer on the show.
Help?

Hmmm...I never gave DS9 it's due. I watched the first couple of seasons, but somehow fell out of watching it. Maybe I'll try to pick it back up. I'm a Trek fan, and I've been on a big Sci-Fi kick lately.

It's certainly my favorite in the Star Trek cannon. Watching TNG and TOS on DVD has mostly been an exercise in nostalgia, enjoyable as it is... In costrast, DS9 has a driving arc and plots that kept me rushing through the whole boxsets...
(And if you *really* love it, do yourself a favor and get the DS9 Companion trade paperback, by far the most detailed and fun of the ep-by-ep Star Trek compendium books.)

As far as the Terry Farrell departure, the story that I remember from the time was that all the actors were originally signed for 6 seasons. When it was time to re-sign for the final season, Terry was the only one who held out for more money (on the advice of her agent). However, the producers called her bluff so she was out. I seem to recall an interview in which she acknowledged it was a mistake and she would have stayed around for the last season, but she got some bad advice.

It sure does seem like there's a lot of people out there that dropped either DS9 or B5 right before either started getting really good.

I usually hold it together until Benjamin tells the elder Jake Sisko "Not for me!" and he replies "For you and for the boy I once was. He needed his father." And then I bawl again at the end when Ben holds the young Jake who asks if he is ok and he says "I am now, I am now."

Spoiler:
Two interesting facts from tv.com:
This episode was nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation but lost to the Babylon 5 episode The Coming Of Shadows.
The Visitor was voted the best episode of any Star Trek series in a TV Guide poll.
