I adore Jordis. Yes, she's young, inexperienced, uncomfortable with attention and unpredictable. But I think she has the alot of potential as a solo artist. The fact that she was able to improvise on melodies always intrigued me and kept me interested. I was waiting every week to see how she would do a song. And, I must admit, I like to watch JD do the same thing. Now that Jordis is gone, my viewing days are over. It became painfully obvious last night that INXS is getting old, out-dated and trying to relive their glory days. I think the original INXS song is quite...uninspired. It also became more evident that they are not a ROCK band. No way. No how. They are pop through and through.
I thought the INXS guys were very gracious with Jordis and she must know by now that she was not the right person for the job. They actually seemed to be letting her down easy. And I have no doubt that she will have future success. So Bill, what's the deal? Why do you dislike her so much? Do you just not like her style? Her performance-style make lack experience, but denying her vocal ability seems extreme. The girl can sing.

Unlike, say, Neal who had a couple of good weeks and then revealed himself to be the tool that he really is, Jordis had a few great weeks that showed who she really is under the best of circumstances and then kind of fell apart under the stress and pressure of such unnatural living conditions. Someone who's that uncomfortable at a photo shoot is going to just be hating life with reality show cameras in their face 24/7.

I wonder if Ty is reliving his racial comments from last week. Wasn't Jordis in the bottom 3 since they revealed on the show that her father was black? Sounds like Ty is on to something there. LOL.

The thing that bothered me about Jordis seeming to give out on longer notes requiring subtlety is that I wonder if it's because she's a smoker. She just never seemed to be able to sustain the long notes required by the classic songs, and would change melodies to overcompensate for this vocal deficiency.

I don't know what was going on with Jordis vocal wise. I did notice that she couldn't hit, "I need you "tonight" without going off pitch, she missed it everytime. I think her lack of range could be a combination of smoking and not knowing what the heck to do with her voice. As stubborn as she seems, she's going to need Dr. Phil and Seth Riggs at this point.

Well her father is Tongan, not black, so he is still full of shit.
I was wanting her to say that the Tongan people are not appreciated enough in rock, all tongue in cheek, to the band.

Incredibly "out of touch" question: Who's Seth Riggs (vocal coach)?
Jordis should definitely give up the smoking habit. Seems like it can only help her voice. And I didn't like JD's INXS cover any better (but I do like when he rearranges songs and I even liked his original). And his answer to "where will you take our band, INXS?" was pretty lame. I know they are on the spot, but you have to be anticipating that kind of question at this point.
I think a tongue-in-cheek reference to Tongan prejudice would have been a Mastercard moment...priceless.

I don't have a great read on JD other than I think he's very weird...
Sad, besides Suzie's salute to him, Ty's hasn't even crossed my mind. It's like he was gone weeks ago or something.

I never saw a show with anything but covers, and occasionally tuned into a final to see who won. I thought it went, "The new American Idol is.........Xxxx Xxxxx! See you next year! Good night!" But it's still not something they wrote or arranged themselves, or is it? And from what you say it is after the competition and series is basically over, so I see a difference. Mostly I thought you're being a bit harsh on JD, as most people (anyone who doesn't regularly watch AI) probably didn't know that either. Plus, he says plenty of things dumber than that.

I just saw no way she was going to win this competition as I originally posted many, many pages ago on this thread. She was never right for the band, INXS. I could see past her "look," and she just didn't ... uhm ... "rock me." Suzie has more of that, which is why I placed her ahead of Jordis. My critique of her was indeed more about her singing and perfroming style, not absolute ability. When the clearly less talented singer/performers were gone, she was exposed, and even she knew it.
She has always sounded to me like she belongs more on a show like American Idol. Besides, I hear they have pretty good singers on American Idol, though as Jadzia can tell you I'm no expert.
So I don't mean that as an insult at all, though that style of music doesn't do much of anything for me personally. Can she sing? Definitely - though she really needs to give up the smokes if she wants to get serious about it.
Should she front INXS? No way.

When I used to read the comment boards on AI, many of the "critiques" were nothing more than personal attacks and I appreciate Bill acknowledging that Jordis just doesn't suit his personal taste in music. I can respect that. I'm glad this particular forum hasn't degraded into "she's got a fat butt," or "her clothes are dumpy and her pants don't stay up." I've really enjoyed reading all the comments here.

INXS has NEVER been a pop band. If their music, especially post-KICK isn't ROCK, I don't know what is. I think the confusion originates from the fact that INXS has always produced rock songs that incorporate lots of danceable beats. Their music was unique because of that very fact...and the reason why I enjoyed 'em.

That's also why Jordis could have done better, but her youth and lack of total vocal chops got the best of her.
Frankly seeing Mig still there certainly doesn't allay my fears of the "ultimate" outcome. Good lord, it would be a total mess if he won...

I must admit, I was a fan of their mid-eighties music, so I can't say what their current style is. I guess I'm trying to say that they certainly aren't "hard rock" or "metal rock" or "grunge" like many of the cover songs they've had people sing. I thought they would have more songs by other bands of their genre (whatever it is). Sorry, I still don't seem them as a rock band. But, I've not heard KICK.

Hmm . . . Kick is #666 at Amazon right now. Maybe the Devil really is inside.
I just bought Murder on My Mind (Lovehammers CD--Marty's band) and it's #162 which seems pretty high, so they're definately benefitting from publicity.
