Legend has it that this is the most erotic line ever uttered on network TV, but I don't think it was really said:

"Ward, I think you were a little rough on the Beaver last night." -- June Cleaver, Leave it to Beaver

On the other hand, she did say this:

I can't believe no one has said: "Not that there's anything wrong with that."

(Are we really talking infamous, famous or both?)

I mentioned that I think that quote is one of the more memorable lines ever uttered on TV.

I likened it to "Which one of you bitches is my mother?", said by Phoebe Cates in the Lace mini-series back in the 80's.

So it got me thinking, what are some other infamous lines from TV shows?

It's summer, the TV forum is pretty slow... Discuss!
Interesting. I have never heard of either one of those lines before reading your post.

I have however heard of:

Do you believe in miracles? Yes!

That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.

Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!

Ladies and gentlemen, the Beatles!

I have a dream...

To name a few.

Me thinks the original poster got his definiton of the word "infamous" from THE THREE AMIGOS.

The actual definition of the word is:

"Having an exceedingly bad reputation; notorious"

So he's asking for really BAD quotes from TV? Hell, turn on any daytime soap for those.

I was thinking of that quote as I first read the thread.

Yeah. I went with truly infamous quote in my first post. Then someone posted the turkey quote and I couldn't resist adding Les Nessman's eyewitness report.

I was going more for the notorious meaning.

Like a line that everyone talks about after the show-- "Did they really say that?" From the moment it is said it immediately creates an impact and is talked about. Not just a line or catchphrase that gets repeated and becomes famous over time.

Like I remembered back in the 80's, the line "Which one of you bitches is my mother?" was so over-the-top, and (bitch had rarely been uttered on TV) that it caused such a stir. That one line makes that mini-series more than just a forgotten TV movie, but a blip in the pop culture radar. It was shocking and campy and pretty much established the word "bitch" as an acceptable word in our lexicon.

I was comparing the same to the DH quote. It was just so totally out there for network TV. I think it quickly became associated with the whole DH craze and was the scene I often saw repeated in the media and commented on by the general public.

I did not realize my choice of words would be controversial. Its summer-- there's not much TV to discuss in this forum. Give me something to moderate.

And mrpayroll is right -- I'm a woman. Can't you tell by the shows I mentioned in the first post?

No, because more men here post about Desperate Houswives than women.
