The Comeback (HBO) - Series Thread - starring Lisa Kudrow

Anybody going to watch this? I'll give it a shot, if only because it's right after Entourage. I suppose a lot of Friends fans will watch? I never watched that show, and I never really thought much of Lisa Kudrow, so I'm not expecting too much. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I was going to start a thread about this earlier, but I forgot about it. Seems like she is playing a Phoebe like character to me (ie. clueless) based on previews, but I hope not.

I'll give it a shot if for no other reason than I give every Sunday night show on HBO a shot.

It's HBO. I'll watch it. However, aside from small doses of her Ursula/Phoebe character, I've never particularly enjoyed Kudrow, so I'm not getting my expectations too high.

I thought it was pretty terrible. The only part I actaully laughed was when she came out in the jogging suit. It looks like next episode they are going to continue to attempt to get laughs out of the suit. It was funny at first, then it was just there. It is also a bad sign when they have to resort to bathroom humor on the first episode. Its sad to sink that low in the first 30 minutes of a new season of a new show.

Golly, that sucked.

Has HBO ever cancelled a show early? It's that bad.

Arli$$ looked like Seinfeld in comparison.

Horrible.

I think it would be better if that is if she played more of a likeable character instead of this typical Hollywood egomaniac.

OK, good, so it's not just me. I love Lisa Kudrow and up until this, thought I would be happy watching her read the phonebook.

I can't believe she co-wrote and co-executive produced this dreck. Bathroom "humor" AND gross-out humor (the hairdresser's melanoma just kept getting worse and worse!! HA! HA!) in the same 30 minutes. Just wow.

Not good.

It gets an "A" for ambition, but that's about it. There's too much going on here for a 30-minute show, and it's not very funny. The writing really lacks here.

I like Kudrow a lot, and I think she should stick to dramatic supporting roles in indie flicks.

Move Arrested Development over to HBO, uncensor it and there you go. The world would be a better place.

A for ambition??? They took "Fat Actress" and put Kudrow in the place of Alley... This show blows, it's fucking annoying. Of course, that's just my opion.

Yup, I agree with everyone here. I love Kudrow (das, check out "The Opposite Of Sex"; she gives an Oscar-worthy performance there), but here nothing worked. I guess it's not really possible to do a fictional reality show about a sitcom, it's too many levels removed and you just end up not caring. Some jokes might have helped, though.
It was a bad show in its own right, but it really compared unfavorably next to Entourage and CYE, two other HBO sitcoms about Hollywood behind the scenes.

I think I made it through 12 minutes.

Kudrow is the luckiest multi-milionaire actor since Hasselhoff.

I wonder how long before 'Friends' she signed a deal with the devil.

Wow..I am so out of touch with my fellow Americans. :-)

I laughed. Thought it had potential. Saw a lot of Curb Your Enthusiasm influence. Subtle stuff like her talking about her wall and saying "married now, so ya have ta share" and they pan for a second to show her husband's tiny lil area. Her thinking she's a big star and even her husband makes light, yet supports when it counts. A few more things...

Obvious cringeworthy parts as well, like the bathroom "humor"...

meh..we'll see... I've been wrong before. Will watch a couple more.

(FYI - I caught this Monday after Six Feet Under. Not sure if that affects anything.)

I'd rather see "Mind of the Married Man" in a heartbeat. That show was a lot better than "The Comeback."

I saw some potential but I'm not so sure Kudrow can pull this off. I also liked some of the CYE influence. I think they should have tweaked the actual show like they did with the show within the show. This could have been a lot better than the pilot. I might give it another shot to see if it improves. I don't think Kudrow is likeable enough. Kinda like Larry David is not really likeable to most females.
