Just got home from my trip and got a chance to watch this. It's a definite . If it had been any other host it would've been an abomination, but Ferrell is so good he was able to elevate the skits to fungus level.

I'll post the full review tomorrow, but quickly the opening was good, Celebrity Jeopardy was funny although I liked it better when it was about the stupid celebrities and not about Connery vs. Trebek, and the cartoon was insane.

A week late with the review, but here it is.

This was really bad for the most part. Of course, Ferrell is a great host but these sketches were among the worst I've seen this season.

Opener
Ferrell back on the set, not remembering names, and trying to avoid Lorne Michaels. Funny bit with him talking to Finesse and thinking, "Finesse, not Keenan.", and of course calling him Keenan.

Monologue
Singing a song, and peeing in his pants. Not funny.

Celebrity Jeopardy
Like I said in my previous post, I preferred these bits more when it wasn't just Connery being an ass and insulting Trebek. As soon as I saw "Japan US Relations", I knew that was coming up as Jap Anus Relations. The F.A.N. does a really good Bill Cosby and Poehler is also good as Sharon Osbourne.

Oracle Conclave
Ferrell as a peppy host of an Oracle conclave, battling technical difficulties. Nothing here.

Para Tri Cyclen
Pre-recorded ad parody for a birth control drug for women who sleep with hundreds of men. I wouldn't mind getting in line for a piece of Amy Poehler.

Nooney & Nooney
The weird foreign couple get more visitors. Pretty much the same skit every time with them correcting the way to pronounce their names, and then unable to pronounce even the simplest American names. Ferrell as their grown son, who still acts like a child.

WU
Funny joke about the California Raisins starting a new tour and then showing a picture of The Rolling Stones. They're wrinkled just like raisins!

Waiter
The first of four WTF skits to close the show. Ferrell is a waiter, and Forte is his former professor who screams at him for freshly ground pepper because Ferrell dropped out of school or something like that. Forte sure does know how to scream.

TV Funhouse
A Hanna-Barbera type cartoon hero, Shazzang the genie. He rescues children from the bad guy, and then brutally and sadistically tortures the villain, much to the disgust and horror of the kids. He makes him drink ammonia, flays the skin from his bones, crucifies him, and brings in the villain's mother and tortures her with rats made from her own vomit. Cool! Shazzang finally eats the villains, shits him out, uses it as fertilizer, grows a plant, feeds the plant to a cow, and then kills the cow, all the while screaming about his daddy. This was one sick cartoon.

Robert Goulet
No clue. Ferrell as Goulet singing about a phone shaped like his head.

Going 2 C Movies
Sanz and Parnell as hosts of a cable movie review show, and Ferrell as a video store clerk on as a guest. No discernible jokes, and I wasn't able to tell if these guys are supposed to be gay or retarded.

Bar
Another shitty sketch. Ferrell is Eurotrash trying to pick up Rudolph in a bar by pretending to be a secret agent and the voiceover guy for Jaguar (pronounced Jag-Yoo-Ar).

Pretty harsh review Goose. I know this isn't true, but after reading that it sounds like you haven't watched SNL in five years and expected a 2nd coming or something. Not a fan of Ferrell? If not, I can understand you not enjoying the show.

Some of the sketches were weak, most noteably the Nuunee bit, but overall I'd give it a , and I think many others here would too.

I am a fan of Ferrell, and I did expect something more from this episode. Great performers can make a mediocre bit go over big, but not even Ferrell was able to save most of these. I shudder to think about how these sketches would've played with a different, less-talented host.

I noticed in the rerun that they used some dress rehearsal footage in the opening sketch and in the monologue. Also, they changed the song in the birth control commercial parody from "There She Goes" to a generic song.

Hey,

Does anyone happen to have a copy of this episode? I had a small part in the Para Tr-Cyclen skit, and I cannot find it anywhere online, and the SNL website states clearly that they do not respond to questions. I only saw it when it aired, and I would like to have a copy of my own. Thank you very much.

welcome. Doesn't the E network rerun somewhat recent episodes of SNL? Granted they cut them down to about an hour, so i don't know if your skit is on there or not.

E reruns this episode every week, even though they have rights to the entire SNL catalogue.
