I have doubts as to whether a series set entirely in the mirror universe would really work. It would depend on how much the characters from this universe, as a frame of reference to the viewer, contributes to the overall enjoyment of the story. Would the show have been as good with actors/characters we've never seen before? Or a show that doesn't reference our universe? Don't really know because I've never seen it. What might work is if the main cast were freedom fighter rebels like the counterparts of some of the DS9 cast.

That episode kicked ass. The Mirror characters were great.

Loved the Tholian web that was created.

mikehunt 04-23-05 11:23 AM

I'm kind of glad we didn't get the "kirk/archer create the mirror universe" version
I was always of the opinion that in the mirror universe hitler won WW2, or at least got a stalemate with the US and had control over all of europe and later on the german empire took over.

crankyman 04-23-05 12:33 PM

finally.

a good opening.
a kick ass episode.
characters i enjoyed.
no silly premise.

and it's ending.

hahahaha.

dstrauss 04-23-05 12:41 PM

That was FUN, dammit.

And I'll echo that the mirror-Hoshi was HOT. But then, Linda Park has always been hot, they just haven't slutted her up like N'pol.

Great episode. I wish Enterprise had been this good the entire time -- I might have watched it. One thing... I do wish they had updated the screens on the Defiant. The Enterprise has these 3D graphics and stuff, and the screens on the Defiant have, like, a colored bar chart with no labels.

Anyway, looking forward to next week.

RoboDad 04-23-05 06:22 PM

Did anyone else catch the episode of TOS on SciFi last night? It was... You guessed it...

The Tholian Web

"Shatner was going to be 'Chef' - an ancestor of Kirk." Sussman explained "We would find out that at some point in the future the real Kirk got into trouble, got taken out of history. And Daniels would show up, he would grab Archer, he would grab Chef - who of course looked like a William Shatner - and say, 'You have to go to the future and impersonate Captain Kirk in some important ceremony.' That was the setup."
So would he have been:

That's pretty damn lame. Glad to see Shatner actually cares enough not to do somethat stupid.

Slowpc 04-23-05 08:00 PM

Well , i just got my hd setup all up and running this week and have not watched enterprise in a while. Just caught the reair of fridays episode and ... wow... All i got to say.

Bronkster 04-23-05 08:17 PM

Well, although I enjoyed it for what it is, I'm holding off on my opinion until I see part two next week. Too many times since B&B have had the reins have the second parts been sub-par compared to the beginning premise. Also, I can't help but think that, since this is an alternate universe, when all is said and done it won't be anything more than another Voyager Holodeck Show type thing. We'll see ....! ;)

If we got the mirror universion of the show on Friday night, I wonder if they got our version.

Yeah, and the mirror universe DVDTalkers are complaining that, after the first three seasons of Enterprise have been brilliant and entertaining, this season is really sucking.

A cheap jab, but I'm still

And this episode f'n rocked. It was awesome, radical, cool, I'm losing any credibility I have aren't I?

A little moment that really got me was when the Defiant's nacelle's started glowing and spinning.

 Tholian

OK, now I'm sure Berman & Braga are purposely trying to screw up the franchise. I mean, if you held a contest where you had everybody in America come up with the worst premise for a Star Trek episode, I don't think you could possibly beat this one for sheer lameness.

Well, you know that the important ceremony was the screening of Grey's Anatomy. He wanted Shatner to make sure to give it a thumbs down so they didn't take off Boston Legal for the remainder of the season!

rigas is a tool, and now we won't even have adelphia, they got sold

Nope. In the Mirror Universe, the people were so outraged by the latest episodes that they stopped watching the show, causing ratings to plummet. They then stormed the offices of Paramount and used the Tantalus Field on B & B. The unfortunate result is that their Enterprise is also being cancelled after just four seasons.

So, in an ironic twist of fate, the parallel universes remain in balance (except that our B & B have yet to be "Tantalized"). ;)

Chew 04-25-05 06:13 AM

I'm surprised no one complained about the speed at which the Tholian Web was created. It took hours upon hours to create in the original series, but a complete web was done in a few seconds here. Maybe due to an increased number of ships? But, the result was sweet.

That's just about my only major complaint.

Good use of First Contact footage, although Cochrane looked a bit "blue-screened in" (in the HD broadcast anyway).

Great opening credits sequence.
Porthos
Poor Forrest keeps getting killed off this season.

OK, one more small complaint: did the Defiant bridge seem a little.....off? It just felt too small compared to the classic Enterprise bridge we're used to.

That being said, I can't wait for part 2. :D

That is what I was thinking...More ships to create the field.

Anyway, I loved the episode. I hope that the defiant lays a smackdown on some other ships next week, and that we'll finally get to see what TOS Enterprise would have been capable of had there been modern special effects.

Not only were there a lot more ships in this episode, but remember that one of the 2 ships in The Tholian Web was damaged, so that would slow things down.

Deftones 04-25-05 10:26 AM

Great episode. At least the show is going out with a bang and not a whimper.
