Well, not sure if I saw an epilogue, but I did tear up as Meg rode off with asshat Chris. What a waste.
If this is the end, I don't think it was a good send-off for long-time fans of the show due to all the dangling threads. Oh well.

It's ridiculous how good of a show this is and how low the ratings are.

Chris and Meg might as well have ridden that motorcycle over a shark tank.
She was totally fine without him, he comes back for 5 minutes and suddenly she can't bear to never see him again. Poorly written transition there. I truly thought she was going to stay until idiot Jack has to pull his "if you leave, never come back" crap. As soon as he said that, I knew she would have to leave. Duh. Jack always says the wrong thing.

Really this wasnt a good episode. This season has been lagging pretty bad. I think this it it for the show. They've been tying up loose ends for the last months. Sam's dad becomes partner, meg and sam test the water, JJ gets into nasa, meg's dad resigns. I think this is it, and that was a HORRIBLE way to go out.

I just watched my tape of this episdoe. Entertainment Weekly had an article about the show. They said that NBC would probably give it another season do to their whole schedule being in such a mess. They had a lot of new shows fail. I sure hope that they give it another season and do not let it end like that. I was so mad when Meg ran off with that little bitchboy. It ruined the whole episode for me.

In another thread they said that 2 of the lead actors (JJ and I think the mom?) had already opted to do other projects for the next season. Not sure they can do the show still even if they wanted to.

They are doing their other shows as a backup. American Dreams will still probably have first contractual rights if the show is picked up again next year. Alot of actors sign long multi-year contracts when they agree to be a regular on a new show. For example I know that Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel have a seven year contract for Gilmore Girls if the show is canceled the contract is voided. I know Estes, Boston, and O'Grady all have pilots because they were getting sick of waiting to find out if they were going to be canceled or not.

I have to agree that this is a truly crappy way to end the series... if this is really the end.

I bet JJ feels like an asshat for discouraging her about Sam.
The way to end the series would be to fast forward to New Year's Eve 2000 or something. Have some woman in her early 50s watching the ball drop. Have her say something like, "Dick Clark hasn't aged a day since I left Bandstand." Then the last line of the show could be, "Hurry up Sam, you're going to miss it."

American Dreams lives!
NBC will rerun the season finale of the canceled Philly-set drama - this time with an alternative ending - sometime this summer, says NBC Universal TV boss Jeff Zucker.
"I think we owe it to our fans, no matter how small that base was. We owe it to [executive producer] Jonathan Prince, who did a terrific job for three years. And I love the show."
When the cast began production on Dreams' March 30 cliffhanger in late February, NBC asked Prince to shoot a second ending that would tie up the story lines. NBC chose to air the cliffhanger.
The 12-minute alternative ending takes place in
