Did anyone catch the really quick shot of the Wrench graphic? It looked like they had Rob Corddry from The Daily Show as Wrench.

Roto 03-21-05 02:25 AM

Supr: That's nice that you and your mom can bond over such fine humor as Mrs. Fingerbottom from Blackstool

My favorite was the Dust Buster, mainly because I didn't get it until I saw the look on Lupe's face with Lindsay said, "Fine, I'll Dust Buster myself!"

I would rather have seen Buster's Star Wars tape than George Michael's. He was just getting warmed up!

Jackskeleton 03-21-05 02:29 AM

Another great episode. As for it feeling "out of place". You have to rememeber that there is always a large amount of stories that are left open to have a joke or two about it in the next episode or two ahead.

TheKing 03-21-05 02:46 AM

How cool is this? The guy that GOB hired to attend the board meeting was a college professor of mine 11 years ago. He even got his real name used during the episode (Ron Michaelson)

He's also the Ditech.com guy (Lost another loan to Ditech!)

Bill Needle 03-21-05 03:14 AM

Great episode. I watched it a second time and got about 10 more jokes. I have got to get this series on DVD.

I'm guessing you didn't see the "Burning Love" episode earlier this season? Rob had a much bigger role as "Moses Taylor" starring in Wrench.

As to this episode: George Michael rotfl

Oh man, too many funny things tonight:

The campaign chant for Steve Holt: Four More Years!
GOBs terrorist shouts during the rally
"I've made a terrible mistake."
Continually cutting to GM's Star Wars fight
The return of the "SLUT" shirt
George Senior's Christian conversion with the same music from when he became a Jew.
Tobias's massive breasts (coupled with the fact he fooled no one as Fingerbottom from Blackstool.)

I'm loving this season! I'm so disappointed this will most likely be cancelled soon. When you are advertising shit like "Life on a Stick" and then cutting back to the brilliance that is "Arrested Development," it really drives home how out of place the show is on Fox.

Normally a commercial advertising a new show will actually make it look interesting or funny. I got a sense of neither from Stick.

Groucho 03-21-05 07:45 AM

Come on people, life on a stick has a girl in lingerie operating some sort of pumping device. I'll gladly sacrifice Arrested Development for 30 minutes of that each week.

This show is not being cancelled. I read an article in last week's Entertainment Weekly explaining why Gail Berman opted to shorten the show's number of episodes for the season. It was explained that by ending the show earlier, it would not have to face intenser ratings scrutiny during May sweeps if it was only airing repeats or not on at all. By avoiding May sweeps, she would not have to justify renewing the show as intensely as she would have to explain why with lower ratings. Basically, the show IS coming back next season...

It was more than a "touch"! The hints/joke STARTED in the first minute of the episode when Lindsey, Michael and GOB are talking in the kitchen about Ann. Remember the conversation about Christians and GOB turns it into pregnancy (something like "I had a girlfriend like that in high school. Yeah they're the hardest to convince to get rid of it... I mean, I don't know what you're talking about.")?

Groucho 03-21-05 08:27 AM

Gob has actually been hinting that he had a child (children?) since season 1.

Chembree 03-21-05 08:41 AM

I like how Michael would give a half-hearted GEORGE-MICHAEL shout a few times, instead of the full STEVE HOLT shout

Great episode!

dick_grayson 03-21-05 08:55 AM

That was a great episode. I can't wait to watch it again. That Star Wars kid video was so perfect. Also, David Cross' character was hilarious. Good stuff!

What WAS the character's real name? I thought it was Mrs. Featherbottom until Maeby messed it up.

Derrich 03-21-05 09:42 AM

I yell at my Roomba ,too. I couldn't stop laughing every time it came on the screen.

I'm sure it will be back next season. I'm thinking it'll only last a half-season at the most. I don't buy the "corporate line" since things like that have been said about other shows (like "Karen Sisco" and "Farscape") and they ended up being cancelled too. I seem to remember a lot of buzz from the execs about how great "Wonderfalls" was too.

Fox isn't a charity and "AD" doesn't pull in the ratings. Enjoy it while it lasts.

fujishig 03-21-05 10:57 AM

You know, I've tried for some time to get my wife to watch this show. She kind of half-heartedly watches it because she knows I love it so much, but either it just doesn't appeal to her, or I have to get her to watch all of season 1 first (she's seen bits and pieces). She also disliked Curb Your Enthusiasm, and only recently has she come around on stuff like Scrubs and Malcolm in the Middle. I think she prefers more of the "stock" sitcom, like Everybody Loves Raymond or Friends. So I see firsthand the kind of challenge this show has in trying to get new viewers...

She'll come around, though. It hardly matters since we're not a Nielson house, but every little bit helps, right?

Echoes of Bonnie Hammer proclaiming Farscape her favorite show and the network's highest rated and "signature" program shortly before canning it in (attempted) secret still haunt my dreams.

Jason Bateman was channelling David Brent in the scene where they argued about his election results. I half expected him to awkwardly grin at the camera.

Think Buster's Star Wars obsession will tie into his losing his hand somehow?

LorenzoL 03-21-05 11:46 AM

When Ann was putting up the poster for George Michael to help him on the school election, the acronyms read:

Vote
I
R
G
I
N

Can anyone remember what it stood for? I only remember the first word which was vote.

LorenzoL 03-21-05 11:47 AM

"Cold Case" kept CBS on top in the night's second hour, delivering an 11.4/18. ABC was well off the pace in second with a repeat of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." NBC took third with the 4.6/7 for "The Contender," which provided far better demographic numbers than its overall total would suggest. FOX was fourth with "The Simpsons" (5.1/8) and "Arrested Development" (3.5/5). The WB's second hour of "Charmed" was last.

I will be disappointed if it doesn't. He's half machine, you know.

Does anyone remember that Star Wars kid video that went around the Internet about a couple of years ago? Does anyone have a copy of it? It looks very similar to the one the GM did.
