Shows that changed their theme songs in mid-stream

And I'm not talking about theme songs that get an adrenalized umph like Differ'ent Strokes or Facts of Life or Silver Spoons - I'm talking about totally different themes.

Happy Days changed from (We're Gonna) Rock Around The Clock to Happy Days

The Flintstones changed from Rise And Shine (an instrumental) to (Meet) The Flintstones

Hardcastle & McCormick changed from Drive (super-charged tempo) to Back to Back (a tepid ballad)

What other shows changed their theme song?

RoyalTea 03-17-05 05:29 AM

the cosby show

invisiblegt 03-17-05 05:55 AM

Ed

From: The Foo Fighter's "Next Year"
To: Clem Snide "Moment in the Sun"

Chew 03-17-05 06:08 AM

Drew Carey Show changed a couple times.

Michael Corvin 03-17-05 06:29 AM

Seinfeld added vocals to one episode before it got changed back. It is discussed in the season 1 & 2 set.

ytrez 03-17-05 06:55 AM

Monk

MrX 03-17-05 07:03 AM

The Wire - Same song, just a different version for each season

Eplicon 03-17-05 07:16 AM

The Twilight Zone.

The first season's theme was by Bernard Herrmann. The subsequent and more familiar theme associated with the show was by Marius Constant.

iggystar 03-17-05 07:18 AM

Gimme a Break
Lost in Space

Didn't "That 70's Show" change theme songs after first year?

Groucho 03-17-05 07:38 AM

"That 70's Show" has always had the same theme song.

I was also going to mention "Monk" since I loved the original theme, and was pissed when they replaced it with a generic Randy Newman number.

jpdude 03-17-05 07:49 AM

Gilligan's Island

Not exactly.

The first season they used Big Star's "Out In the Street" but following that they got Cheap Trick to record a version of it. They added stuff like the chorus "We're all alright, we're all alright." as an allusion to their performance of Surrender at Budokan.

Okay, you're right. But it doesn't qualify under Buttmunker's rules set forth at the top of the thread.

Bandoman 03-17-05 08:07 AM

Enterprise. The newest theme rocks. And by "rocks" I mean "sucks ass."

das Monkey 03-17-05 08:23 AM

Simon & Simon

And back to "Next Year" again after one season of "Moment in the Sun".

Giles 03-17-05 08:43 AM

wasn't the theme music for Fox's Party of Five change at some point?

Superman07 03-17-05 08:54 AM

Felicity changed themes for the final year. It was from an instramental piece that I think was written by Pink Ranger, to a piece written by JJ Abrams and some other guy.
Second one was much better.

Bandoman 03-17-05 09:11 AM

Babylon five changed it's theme every year to fit the "mood" of each season. That was cool.

Tommy Ceez 03-17-05 09:14 AM

Alias...Im still not sure which one I like better...the new one pounds the bass more, but the old one had a cooler vibe to it.

frenchy 03-17-05 09:14 AM

Yes, Dear

Quatermass 03-17-05 09:19 AM

Walker, Texas Ranger

Also, 60 minutes went from
"tictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictic"
to
"tictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictictic"

My wife and I mute the TV and sing the original theme song every episode.

the narrator 03-17-05 11:21 AM

I believe King of Queens changed theme after the first seaon

draven31 03-17-05 11:33 AM

Magnum PI...... it changed in the first season.

thank god, the original music sucked.

Jim 03-17-05 11:33 AM

Magnum P.I. changed theme songs midway through the first season.

Groucho 03-17-05 11:35 AM

Has anybody mentioned "Magnum PI"? They changed in the first season.

Jim 03-17-05 11:35 AM

Drat you draven31! You beat me by seconds. I bet you were thinking "I can't believe no one has mentioned Magnum yet."

Giles 03-17-05 11:37 AM

if you time it right, you can sing the actors names along with John Williams score for the theme of "The West Wing"

draven31 03-17-05 11:40 AM

Sorry it just came to me......not to mention I just bought the season set a few weeks back. I really hate the original opening music.

Daniel-A 03-17-05 11:43 AM

Degrassi TNG altered their opening to something thats gross sounding.

BassDude 03-17-05 11:45 AM

Starsky and Hutch

I had forgotten the old theme when I bought Season One, but sure enough, the most popular theme was there on Season Two!

rkndkn 03-17-05 11:50 AM

Hack changed theme songs between the first and second season.

yes it was, every season a different variation of the theme song.

MEJHarrison 03-17-05 12:34 PM

Didn't Star Trek: Voyager change it's theme after the first or second season?

Minor point, but it's Snuffy Walden that does the music for TWW

Jim 03-17-05 01:09 PM

I don't know if this counts, but Monday Night Football changed themes. I think the Hank Williams Jr. song cheapens the opening and doesn't have the air of importance of the original theme.
