I will have to rewatch this one. I thought it was below average (which still puts it as the best show on tv, however), but it just didn't do anything for me. I watched with friends, and that was a first, so maybe that was part of the problem.

It's only about half again as big, so I doubt there's enough resolution here to work with. Hopefully someone else can come up with better....

I love love LOVE this show!
I thought it was an awesome ep, especially all the little references and tie-ins:
--Hurley on the TV, looked like he was being followed by papparazzi... I immediately thought of the rumors about his backstory and figured that explained why he was being interviewed on TV
--explaining the other side of where the dog came from, and the blood.
--showing how Jin slid into the man we thought we knew: in order to get the girl of his dreams, he made a compromise (working for her dad), then another (doing violence for her dad), and on and on... all the while hating the position he found himself in, and not able to tell his wife what was really going on, and resenting her as being the reason he was working for her dad, without her knowing why. On the one hand, I thought he was going to cave at the end, but on the other hand, he still doesn't want to disillusion her about her dad (yeah, I think that's really it).
--the scene at the end where Sun lets go of the covering on the beach and is symbolically free, plus her amazing acting during the fight scene and the scene with Jin in the cave
--the scene with Hurley listening to music at the end... he walked across the screen and I thought geez, shouldn't he be running out of batteries about now? and then he did!
That was classic, just beautifully done.
Oh, and the scene where Locke was telling them someone else burned the raft, I thought, "How did they do that unseen?" Then Walt and Michael are talking about the burned raft, and I watched Walt's face when he found out his dad was going to rebuild, and I thought: "he did it". Seriously. Because 1)he's weird and 2)kids don't think about consequences the same way, IMHO... it wouldn't be as odd for a kid to think "I want to stay here" and think that justifies burning the raft, plus Walt just doesn't seem to see the dangers or what he's missing out on by being on the island (again, not unusual for a kid). I was going to jump on here and post "OK I think Walt did it" at that point, but figured I was wrong, and tada, there it was.
to the translation of what was said on the beach, I had no idea Jin saw Walt start the fire, that changes things...

Also, about Jin speaking English, that was awesome showing the fight from his point of view, not able to understand. I think that showed he still can't speak English, besides picking up a few words. I think Sun's words to him in English caught his attention because they were in English, and because of the urgency in her tone (that's when she really lost it, crying and such).

Hmmm... Is it possible that Locke understands Korean? It seems plausible since he not only stopped the fight between Jin and Michael after hearing this, but he also knew about Walt starting the fire.

Could a future Locke flashback RE-instate the belief that he's really a kick ass spook type that had to resort to a 'normal life with a normal past' after being wheelchair bound? A box salesman doesnt speak Korean...but someone who puts other people in pine boxes could.
PLUS Locke COULD have given the "theres other people responsible for our misfortunes" speech to stop the castaways from looking too hard, which would potentially uncover some of Locke's previous alleged attempts to scuttle rescue chances. Once the heat was off, he KNEW HE didnt do it, and guessed Walt. Maybe??

"Lost," 11.9/18, provided the best results of ABC's night at 8 p.m. CBS was second for the hour with "60 Minutes," 6.8/10. "That '70s Show," 5.4/8, and "The Simple Life 3," 5.6/8, put FOX in third. NBC went with a rerun of "Crossing Jordan" and came in fourth. "Smallville" posted a 3.1/5 for The WB, a point better than "The Road to Stardom" on UPN.

Korean sorta has an alphabet (unlike Chinese). This buddy also learned how to read and write Russian in one day as well.
I took a year of it at the Defense Language Institute (six hours a day--basically college with one subject) and picked it up easily, maybe in part because I'd studied Japanese which though unrelated, is similar. We lost a lot of people though who had to retrain in a lower category language. Also, "picked it up" is relative since I understood far less than a similar student in the French or Spanish program would have. The Korean scenes are one of the pleasures of "Lost" for me--it's been a long time since I've been to Korea, but it's fun to listen to the dialogue.

Finally watched this episode. What a great episode! I can't believe I got that BS weather subtitle crap too.
That translation of what Jin said in the beach about seeing Walt burning the raft MAKES a huge difference than the version of just Locke asking Walt why he burned the raft. So far, we think Walt has special power (I still think he does) and I think the writer is using this to throw us off.
I posted this in last week's Lost thread. I truely think after Locked saw the monster, he knows everyone's secret in the island.
And one last thing, I can't wait for next week's episode

Seeing Hurley on the TV broke my concentration for the rest of that scene though! Classic!
