I think it says something about the show when no one posts now that it's actually airing
I tried the first episode -- despite some good gags (the "shats", Shatner's incompetent body-double nephew) there just weren't enough laughs. Even the town was recognizing the movie as crap at the showing of the "dailies". I don't think they'll be surprised at all to find out its fake (maybe even relieved). There also seems to be a difference between this and Joe Schmo (which I liked): Schmo's laughs were with the guy, at all the silly stuff that was going on around him. Iowa seems to want us to laugh at the town: watching them get all excited and throw a party (with the crew taping comments like "Ha Ha! We fooled them!"), making a 40-something woman do a cheerleading routine in an audition, casting a guy who forgets his lines, so we can laugh at him when he keeps calling out "Line?" while shooting. Maybe it gets better, but I doubt I'll watch to find out, unless I hear from people about how much better it got.

I finally got around to watching this on DVR. It was OK, but pretty uneven. Either they didn't know what direction to take with the show, or they started with one idea that didn't work and edited together something different. I was talking with the wife and we agreed that it appeared as if they had intended to make a wacky "Joe Schmo" type series (for instance the kid's book that symbolized the joy of breast implants and lesbianism), but then perhaps many of the gags didn't work out or end up at all funny, so they chopped it together to make it more of an "aww shucks" homey kind of show. Some of the supporting cast barely appeared in the series. Maybe their gags were unconvincing and therefore dropped. All in all it was worth recording, but another episode would have been too many. That Pickering guy (the Conan look-a-like, product placement guy) was pretty funny, as was the horrible over-dubbing of "Disintigratrix 3000" in the final cut.

I passed throgh Riverside yesterday folks, and I have some bad news: The "Billville" sign has been stolen! The sign they had in it's place was the old:

"Welcome to Riverside - Where theBest Begins"
