What theme did they use in the UK? The original?

I watched the "33" portion last night and was impressed. I was not much of a fan of the original mini-series when it first came on last year, but when I watched the DVD I actually found myself liking it a lot. You just have to get past the fact that they aren't going for camp and/or 70s schlock (the original one had a discoteque with a multimouthed woman singing, not very fitting for the mood). If Ronald Moore keeps his focus, he could quite possibly have one of the best sci-fi series ever made on his resume.

It seems pretty obvious that Boomer will become, over the time, the key to figuring out how to beat the Cylons. She has already started to disobey her programming, lets see if she can work out her "Cylon issues"

The episodes were pretty interesting. I definitely enjoyed the concepts. Although it won't take long for me to get sick of the shaky camera and Baltar's conversations with the cylon.

I was very impressed with the first two episodes!!! First time viewers really need to go buy, rent or netflix the miniseries that just came out the other week. Watching this will answer alot of questions for some folks! Looking forward to next week!! Battlestar plus SG-1 and Atlantis!!! oh and Enterprise unless it starts to suck again!!
Fridays are cool again!!

Take care all!!

I am enjoying the show so far but question for those who have seen most of the episodes already. Is it just going to be cat and mouse every week and is it going to stay so serious? I know the subject matter is much deeper than the original show but it would be nice to have some humor ocassionally, ya know??

Pulling off the humor thing will be tricky. The subeject matter is pretty heavy right now, and putting in jokes would really look inappropriate in the eyes of some people. I agree that they need to lighten up a bit, but how remains a challenge.

hum not much buzz about the opening two episodes, would have expected more, for somebody who sat through every trek series its a welcome addition to my tivo lineup. Haven't enjoyed a scifi series this much since space above and beyond.

Of course, I had watched the original series as a kid so, I was in nomatter if it sucked or not.
With most of those episodes being seen while I was eating on a tv tray sitting at the end of a plastic carpet runner at my Grandmothers house for Sunday dinner.

only thing i found wrong about the show is that they use bullets, missiles and other ammunition. How are you going to be resupplied in space when your world is destroyed?

in the expanded universe from the original BSG the ship was basically a factory and all they needed to do was hit a planet every once and a while and do some mining and they could build almost anything onboard, including new Vipers
no evidence so far of this being incorporated into the new series, although (spoiler for a later episode)
Spoiler:
they do get low on fuel and look for a source of the mineral that gets refined for fuel and end up raiding a cylon refinery

imo, that's one of the better scenes of the show, which indeed is interesting.

I enjoyed the miniseries quite a bit when it aired a little over a year ago, and I was really happy the show got picked up for a series. Liking it a lot so far, although I do sort of miss some of the Earth-Kobol connections (although I'm glad they ditched the pharaoh helmets). The original was campy fun but this is some serious sci-fi.

Incidentally, the Twelve Colonies of Kobol are based on the twelve zodiac symbol (obviously), but out of curiosity I did a search and apparently there is a thirteenth zodiac symbol: Ophiuchus the Serpent Bearer. So I guess that's where the idea of the "thirteenth colony" came from.

I still want to know what happened to the real Boomer. And I am starting to get sick of Boltar's hallucinations as well.
And out of 50k people, only one person is a doctor? There are no other scientists, even on the Galactica?

Actually this is all based on the bible and the Book of Mormon, hence the 12 tribes and the "13th" tribe that Mormon is based upon. Kobol in Mormon is said to be the star closest to god. The original creater/writer of the 70's series was mormon. He also infuse the series with a heaping dose of Greek mythology, especially for the names.

Boomer is a cylon sleeper agent that thinks she is human. the one on bsg thinks she is human. i think the one on caprica is acting human to find the last humans. there was never any real boomer.

I could tell that even when I was a little kid. The Mormon mythology was pretty obvious in the show.

I enjoyed it quit a bit. I also like the fact they are so serious. Whats with people wanting them to lighten up? Its about time we have some adult drama set in a sci-fi medium. I felt the 30 min intro show had to many spoilers. It takes the anticipation out of it some. My only complaint would be to much of the blonde cylon bits. By the way, there is your humor. When Starbuck walked in on Baltar having sex with the cylon Starbuck could not see, therefore it looked like he (Baltar was yanking his chicken. As for the flashbacks, I took them as dream/conversations with the cylon, not an actual flashback to an invent that had previously occured.
Curious. How is the uk version better. I would think the material is virtually the same.

Agreed. I like how they have the other Boomer with Heilo. I wonder if they will try to use him to find the Galactica. They obviuosly have a plan for him.

Baltar's conversations with Cylon#6 (the blonde)--and the Boomer#2/Helo sidestory on Caprica--are both long-term parts of the show. Neither one specifically involve flashbacks.

Yeah, I found that out after I posted. Still interesting. It's called "Kolob" in The Book of Mormon, though. Here's the link: http://www.michaellorenzen.com/galactica.html

Anyway, I think Number Six will also figure into the victory over the Cylons. I get the feeling that Six will either switch sides altogether or, more likely, have a last-minute change of heart. I mean, she protected Baltar even though his usefulness had run out, and she keeps giving him hints to prolong his life. Sure, he fascinates her as an object of study, but it seems like it's more than that. Like she secretly wants humans to win or at least survive in order to validate her own humanity.

On the other hand, maybe the show is about showing machines displaying both the positive side (Boomer) and negative side (Six) of human relationships. Let's face it, both of them love to get it on, but one is based in love and trust while the other is empty and manipulative.

Holy crap, wait till you get to episode 12.....awesome episode, wouldn't you agree Mr. Hunt?

They better not screw around with the backround music for the US version of this.
