my pilot is finished... sort of.
For those of you who care (I think there's one)...
The pilot finished shooting on Dec. 23rd. I was basically happy with what we got. We had no prep time, no budget and a studio kicking our ass at every turn, but I loved the cast and the diretor (Walter Hill) and we did the best we could.
Now Walter gets it for 2 weeks of editing, then he turns his cut over to me and Steve Cannell and we get a week to make any changes we want.
Then we have to "output" it to Warner Brothers. WB was the studio (TNT the network) and WB paid the deficit on the pilot. Which for some ridiculous reason in the world of TV, gave them power over the network... lame.
WB wants 4 outputs, which means they want to view the thing 4 times - giving notes each time - before the network sees it. This is something that Cannell and I did not sign on for. We are fighting it.
Anyway, once the cut is finally done and TNT gets it, they will decide between it and 3 other pilots as to which show to put on this fall when they make their first foray into series television.

I'll second the "wow" on Walter Hill. Congratulations, and please keep us updated.

2 Questions?
1. Is "The Dark" one of the left over names from the pilot-naming thread? Seems very similar to The Jump...
2. Can we name future episodes for a chance to be an extra?

But to me - the show is really a psychological study of the lead character. It's an FBI profiler who has just come out of a coma, had a nervous breakdown, wife committed suicide, etc.
It's the whole Nietzsche thing: "He who fights monsters should take care lest he become a monster..."
The show is "supposed" to be about this guy's psyche and watching him as he gives up a piece of himself each week fighting the good fight.
In answer to #2... um, not much.
