I've only seen CSI season 1 and altough it picks up in the later seasons, I think it's an excellent season and very entertaining. watch an older episode on spike tv or whatever and see for yourself. I just recently started watching it and I now prefer it over Law and/or Order

Of the sets you mention, Carnivale was by far my favorite. People seem to think it's slow, but I think it's great the way they take the time to develop characters and scenes in a non-rushed manner (Deadwood was like that too, also a big thumbsup).
Alias started out great but dropped off (recent episodes have put me to sleep--I just quit caring). Season one was very good though.
CSI is okay but episodic. As far as I'm concerned, if you can jump in and out of episodes, then it's too simple to be very good.

I just finished Lost. All I have to say is WOW!!!!! I was throughly impresssed with it.
Now I am lookng for reccomendations on where to go next. My options I'm looking at are: Nip/Tuck: Season 1 or The Shield: Season 1.
I am right now...leaning towards Nip/Tuck. Where is the best price to get Season 1 right now? I know season 2 is out for $39.99 but best price on Season 1?

I need something to tied me over, however until then. Would you reccomend any of the following?
Or if you want shows still airing, the first two seasons of Nip/Tuck are available. There's also Lost and Rescue Me. Alias' fourth season is going to be out soon.
Did you really like the third season of 24?

If you're willing to wait until winter, Deep Discount DVD's 20% off sale is the best place to get everything (with free shipping and all), provided you don't want to play the Columbia House game (besides, CH doesn't even carry Alias, The Shield, 24, Millennium, Murder One, The X-Files or a billion other titles).

What he said....that's why i'm hoping that they release the Tarantino episode separate from the season set.

Out of those three:
1: Alias (I've now seen season 1 three times in the past couple of months. I went through it once by myself, then with my cousin and then with my best friend. They all love it too.)
2: Carnivale (picks up big time in season 2)
3: CSI
Out of all shows if I wanted to pick up 6 (I know, weird number, but I didn't want to leave too many out.
) really great shows then I'd pick the following 6 shows (in order):
1: Buffy (Greatest tv show ever IMO and many others. Voted #1 of all time on TVGuide's huge online poll and came in second over all on DVDTalk's Best Ever TV Show competition. It lost by one vote against the Simpsons. That competition was not on the same scale as TVGuide's poll, of course. I even got my hating best friend addicted to Buffy & Angel. Forget any opinions you have and go in with an open mind and you'll be more than pleasantly surprised.)
2: Angel (Buffy spinoff about a vampire with a soul. It's almost dead even with Buffy in overall quality. Some may even find it better. It's the darker series of the two, much like Xena is to Hercules. On this particular pretty big poll Angel is ranked #2 of 557 shows of all time. It has over 13,000 votes. Here's the link: http://richlabonte.net/tvvote/)
3: Alias (even though Xena became my third favorite series ever earlier this year I'd recommend checking this one out first, because it gets off to such a fast start)
4: Xena (This is a show I recommend once you've seen the above shows. It's another show I didn't think I could get into, but did. It's currently ranked #1 on the poll above out of 557 shows with nearly 22,000 votes. Very fun show with two really great lead characters, but it's not too big on story arcs, although it does have some. It's campy, it's fun, it can do drama, action and adventure all very well. Very creative team behind this series. I love it when a series can be funny one episode and then dead series the next episode. It can make a series seem less one dimensional. Even though it's not my #1 favorite show I'd have to say Xena is probably my favorite character ever now. She is simply badass.)
5: Freaks & Geeks (amazing series that only lasted for 1 season)
6: Carnivale

Definitely Alias. A lot of classic shows with big DVD presence, like Buffy and X-Files, are a slow build and take seasons to really "get". Alias is instant gratification. The best period for that show was the first 1 1/2 seasons and the pilot is a classic. I'd say go with that.
Or, for more down to earth characterization I'd recommend season 1 of Rescue Me. Great great stuff.

Well, I like both Nip/Tuck and The Shield.
Both have slight nudity and slight cursing. From one of your posts - you seemed to have reservations about that - even though you said you watched all of the seasons of SATC, which is odd.
If you do have some reservations on language and nudity, don't go anywhere near the other HBO shows (um...especially Oz). But you will be missing out on some of the best television shows of the past 10-15 years.
Nip/Tuck's first season was extremely intelligent and was never boring. Excellent dialogue, acting, and direction. It deals with plastic surgery, so expect some small-squeamish moments. Completely engrossing.
The Shield's first season is also well written with a powerhouse performance from The Commish. Network Cable level violence, nudity, and language (more than 24, less than The Sopranos) - but never over the top.
I was very much into The Shield's first season, but I felt Nip/Tuck's premiere season hooked me even more (I just couldn't wait for the next week's episode).
I've never seen Carnivale.
From your other posts, it seems that you like the "cop" related atmosphere over "everyday" people drama (I'm the opposite) - so for you I say The Shield.

Tough call. I'll say Nip/Tuck since it gets off to a faster start. Carnviale is a bit slower at first, but is also great.
BTW, why did you take Alias off of the list? Did you already watch it already?
