If Alias has an opening scene like that as well, I don't think my hand will ever leave my pants.

What the bloody hell. I'm totally lost here. Last time it ended they were chasing pregnant girl and abductor and had just found a metal thing in ground. Everyone here said was last one till new year. Blasted everyone talking now like I missed few shows. Grr turning it of and waiting for dvd season one set I guess.

I don't think you missed anything, they just haven't gone back to that story yet.

I was a little confused as well why they didn't pick up right where they left off.

Now that funny. I shut off too. Have to admit though not a episode to air after a month hiatus. Mighty damn confusing. I was sure they start right at metal thing in real time. When they started talking about what happened to pregnant girl in past tense I shut it off figuring I missed few eps.
Sorry for directing my anger at folks said Dec 8th one was last ep for awhile back then. Clearly it was.

OK, so my big thought after this episode:

After the revelation about the song by Shannon, I wonder if the French lady and her party happened upon the island by boat (I don't think it is ever explained), whether by chance or searching for it. My wife and I immediately listened to the song on Finding Nemo (originally a Bobby Darin song, so she could have known it before the island) and the song's lyrics could possibly tie into the situation.

Other than that, I am just more curious now about Kate's past, but also Boone's and Shannon's. When Shannon was singing, Boone gave her an odd look and next week's incident with Sayid looks to possibly make it more interesting.

Plus, it appears Boone and Locke have been hard at work, so we shall see where that heads.

Overall, a good episode and some more exciting future possibilities.

EDIT: removed spoiler tags

I should add that the song only inspired the idea of the group arriving on the island by boat, or other means, possibly by purpose. Basically, not by accident or a crash like our current group. But, the lyrics lend themselves to other theories as well. Not that I believe necessarily any of my theories, but it is always fun to speculate of what 'could be'

Kate swimming

The entire episode

It really had a stupid plot device, with a stupid reason, with a stupid ending. Until this episode I had really been riveted to each show.

Kind of a disappointing episode overall. Oh well, I guess they all can't be great.

I liked tonight episode. You can tell that the main purpose of this episode was to set up the backstory of Shannon and Boone next week while giving us another little glimpse of Kate's checkered past.

I'm still a little puzzled about the use of the French version of "Beyond the Sea". Oh well, hopefully everything will be revealed in due time.

No need to use the spoiler's tag since you are discussing tonight's episode.

I'm dying to know what is the deal between Shannon and Boone.

BTW, Shannon is a cutie and am I seeing things or was there something going on with her and Sayid.

i'm sure there are others curious about the lyrics to that song....so here they are:

Beyond The Sea

Somewhere beyond the sea
somewhere waiting for me
my lover stands on golden sands
and watches the ships that go sailing

somewhere beyond the sea
she's there watching for me
and if icould fly
like birds on high
then straight to her arms
i go sailing

it's far beyond the stars
it's near beyond the moon
i know beyond the doubt
my heart will lead me there soon

we'll meet beyond the shore
we'll kiss just as before
happy we'll be beyond the sea
and never again i'll go sailing

it's far beyond the stars
it's near beyond the moon
i konw, yes, i know beyond the doubt
my heart will lead me there soon

we'll meet, iknow we'll meet beyond the shore
we'll kiss just as before
and happy we'll be beyond the sea
and never again i'll go sailing

and never again i'll go sailing

The song Beyond the Sea was apparently very loosely based on a french song "La Mer." The lyrics to La Mer, translated, are as follows:

La mer
Qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs
A des reflets d'argent
La mer
Des reflets changeants
Sous la pluie

The sea
which one sees dancing along the clear gulfs
to sparkles of silver.
The sea
Of changing sparkles
Under the rain.

La mer
Au ciel d'été confond
Ses blancs moutons
Avec les anges si purs
La mer bergère d'azur
Infinie

The sea
Confuses the summer sky's sheep
With angels so pure.
The sea
Shepherdess of blue infinity.

Voyez
Près des étangs
Ces grands roseaux mouillés
Voyez
Ces oiseaux blancs
Et ces maisons rouillées

Look!
Next to the ponds
Those tall wet reeds.
Look!
Those white birds
And those rusty houses [cabins of boats?]

La mer
Les a bercés
Le long des golfes clairs
Et d'une chanson d'amour
La mer
A bercé mon coeur pour la vie

The Sea
Has rocked them [like a baby]
Along the clear gulfs.
And with a song of love
The Sea
Has rocked my heart for life.

Maybe a bit more revealing, if they can be considered (since it was "Beyond the Sea" and not "La Mer" that she was supposedly hearing on TV). The "Look!" lines are most interesting to me...cabin of boat? Could that be what Boone and Locke have?

Also, surely only a coincidence, song #8 on the Finding Nemo soundtrack..."Lost." (=

Beyond the Sea is a song about love lost, and seems that everyone on the island is dealing with a death or at least some kind of loss. Rose lost her husband, Jack lost his father, Kate lost her lover, Sawyer lost his parents, Sayid lost Nadia, now Charlie's lost Claire (and just what do you want to bet that when (if) they find Claire alive, her baby will have already been delivered and it will be gone too), and the Frenchwoman had to kill her husband. I don't know if this is significant or not, but what a Lost thread without baseless speculation?

I'm really interested in learning more about what Locke and Boone are up to. Are they just digging or are they building something as well? What will Jack do with all those weapons? What's really in those notes written by the French woman? What about Claire?

Oh yeah, me likes Kate

The couple in the lagoon was just a tad freaky.

C'mon! Who's got the Shannon and Kate screen caps??

Decent episode (wish there was more of the Locke storyline), but the ending was rather anticlimactic.

The song...

Lost...

ABC...

Disney...

Pixar...

Finding Nemo...

... it's not rocket science guys.

... but I did find this episode a little light on continuity, but it did provide some introspective things for next weeks episode with Shannon and Boone.

By the way... don't go searching for "Shannon Boone" all you'll get are weird sites where folks have started to write incestuous back-stories about them.

And FWIW, there are only two more new episodes after this one before they kick back and do 9 and 10 again. Maybe these three episodes are some kind of arc that will lead to an ultimate cliffhanger that will take us into the next set of sweeps.

Ok episode. Always a plus seeing Kate swimming

I saw a lil spark between Shannon & Sayid as well.

Also, no one has mentioned the return of the black woman who lost her husband. I'm glad that she helped Charlie get back on track. I also like how the writers showed that the only person that could truly help Charlie now was God cuz it's so true....in times like that, the only person that you can turn to is God

Unlike most of the previous episodes, there was more than a day lapse in between this one and the last (5 days actually).

Pretty weak episode for this series. Definitely a bad one to come off a long hiatus with. Next week looks slammin, however.

Has anyone been to the website http://lost-media.com. In the Lost photo gallery there is a section called promotional photos. There they have pictures for the next two episodes. Very interesting I must say. They don't really show anything that gives the plot away really, just insite into the characters. Still, if you are don't want to know anything ahead of time, don't go there.

Has anyone every read the abc lost forums? They have a few theories there I haven't thought of, and quite a few far fetched ones too. One theory is that all these people have events that tie them to four years ago (2000). The only ones that have proof right now is that Charlies band was signed four years ago, Locke started using a wheelchair four years ago, Sawyer says to Kate "this was my birthday wish four years ago" and one other that will appear in two episodes. I guess some other characters back stories could fit into four years ago too. Also, apparently the lock deposit box was number 815 and the flight number was 815. Interesting.

OK, Evangeline Lilly is easily the hottest person on any television show currently in production, agreed?

(And yea, I watch Las Vegas...)

Anyway, about this episode: The whole thing where Kate had the friggin briefcase and Sawyer was going to let her keep it, but she gave it back to him only to try to steal it back a few hours later was soooooooooooooo stupid. There was no point or logic to it!

Other than that though, it was a pretty good episode oeverall, but the fact that it did nothing to tie up any of the cliffhangers from last week knocks it down several levels just for that. I hope we find out about Claire and the underground thingy next week, and I hope it was worth waiting a week to find out.

One word about tonight's episode.

Kate.

That is all.
