Just when they were starting to wipe off the dirt away, it fades to black.

This show is freaking awesome. Just when you think it couldn't get any better, it does. What is the REAL secret on the island? Who is "they" and why would they want Claire, or more likely, Claire's baby?

Good thing Charlie didn't die for good on his birthday! That would have dampered the mood. So is this the "death" of a major character by the writers or whatever or will someone die for good next time?

It will have made sense if they did that. It will have been one of the best kept secret, especially nowadays.

In today's day and age, most DEFINITELY.

However, i'm glad he's still alive.

Great ep tonight. This is one if not the best drama on tv right now. Was Jack beating on Charlie's chest with the one hand to shock his heart? It is going to be a long three weeks.

And what the heck was the thing that Locke and Boone were cleaning away??? Wreckage? An underground lair?

As soon as they starting tapping the steel, for some reason I kept thinking about an underground lair and the "Island of Dr. Moreau". Wouldn't surprise me if its a lab or medical center. The French woman being part of a scientific expedition, people getting sick and "they" wanting a healthy newborn it leads me to think that this is where the show is going.

On the other hand, I could be totally wrong but so far this looks like the likely scenario to me...

God I'm so fucking pissed he survived. This would have been the best episode of any show *ever* if they would have let Charlie stay dead.

Absolutely. That's the first thing I thought of.

Sure, it's a little cliche, but I would have missed his character. So I'll let it slide...this time.

Well, at least we have some reason why Jack would not quit on Charlie due to the painful flashbacks of Jack having to tank his father's medical career because of his alcoholism issues. Add that to Jack having all sorts of regret and remorse from his father committing suicide due to the aftermath of losing his medical license, his "life" in a sense. So confronted with losing Charlie, Jack just keeps pounding on Charlie's chest in hopes of reviving his heart, and damn if it didn't work. Now, the writers could have easily just let Charlie die, and it would have been one of the greatest anti-marketing schemes at work since there have been many interviews and articles of the producers telling the viewers that Dominic Monaghan is far too popular to kill off, and yet if they wanted to, they could have easily done it and shocked the Lost faithful.

Notice how quickly Locke and Boone forget about finding Claire and Ethan once they uncover a new mystery with the steel enclosure in the ground?

I think Hurley could very well be well off (his comment to Walt, I think, is meant to be taken at face value, re: the $20,000 bet in a game of backgammon). Or maybe not.

So Boone runs a subsidiary of his mother's matrimony empire. Locke tells Boone that he works for a place that makes boxes.

Nice little "real" moment between Kate and Jack, even after Jack earlier just wanted people to have a fresh start, but 3 weeks on the island, and he finds that no one can escape their past entirely.

The Sawyer-Sayid exchange opened the door for a little less in terms of antagonism.

Absolutely. Exactly what I was thinking. All the while Jack was trying to save him, not just when he succeeded. He wouldn't give up, just like Ed Harris.

Yep! Too bad this shocking scene was reduced to a "He was dead but he got better" joke.

Exactly- it would have had the hard hitting impact of the major character being killed off without anyone knowing it was going to happen (except I think Lost is a much better show therefore it would have been a better episode).

Instead they reduced it to a fucking soap opera cliche.

Still one of my favorite shows on TV, but this just knocked it down a notch for me.

Wasn't Danielle holding Sayid in a room with a steel hatch something like the one Locke and Boone found?

I'm glad Charlie lived, because he's one of my favorite characters. If he'd died, there'd be 14-year olds protesting outside ABC studios in the morning. And the 22-year old female writing this post would not be pleased either So let's just go with it folks. Jack was redeemed (if you call it that) by saving him and now maybe we won't see Zombie Dad anymore.

As far as the secret cave/tunnel/lair/tomb that Boone and Locke uncovered, as long as it doesn't resemble Al Capone's vault once they open it up I'll be happy. If this ends up being one of those cliffhangers that doesn't pan out, after it's built up so big, I'll be pissed. But I have to say that this was one of my favorite first seasons of any show I've ever seen. I can't wait for next year!!

So was I - that's why I was hoping Jack wouldn't miraculously bring him back.

Maybe he was only "mostly dead", Because once he's all dead it's over.

I wish they would've just revived Charlie right away, to make it more believable. I don't see the point in dragging it on like that. Plus, wouldn't he have some heavy brain damage after being "dead" so long? Either way, I still love the show, but I could do without Jack's "real" life footage.

I wish they had the balls to kill him off. That's one of the things I love about Third Watch - they don't blink when it comes to killing off a major character w/out any warning.

Great episode. Got to see and learn more about Kate. A little more background revealed in regards to Boone and John. Sayid and Sawyer met for the first time since the incident.

The creator already said that Charlie is not going to die...do you really want to piss off the legion of hobbit fans that only started to watch it because of Dominic?

That being said...I was thinking to myself..wow...Abrams sure has some big balls if he killed of charlie.

Very intriguing episode.

"They" wanted her. Experimentation???

The door does seem similar to what Danielle opened to go out. Part of the lab from the ship?

Sawyer and Sayid nearly making up? Sawyer almost acting human?

Always with the suprises.

Gonna be a long three weeks.

I was thinking that they could have "killed" him off and then brought him back at the very end of the season, with the explanation that he was injected with some drug that slowed down his metabolism enough to make him appear dead. Abrams did it in Alias
Spoiler:
with Sloan's wife
, so I thought it could have been done here.
