Great episode. Sucks that I have to record the show after it (Nick and Jessica this week) just so I can watch the last minute each week, but definately a must this week.

Psychic and "Ethan" are related in some way. How? Not sure.

I may have gotten the quote wrong but all I'm saying is that it's silly to say they can put something in because "there might be a scientific explanation some day." There might be a scientific explanation some day for just about anything but then that means they could have any wild thing on the show and say "there might be a scientific explanation some day." If that's what they meant their promise is worthless (I presume that's not what they meant). And I submit anything that does have a scientific explanation is not illogical. My addition of "logical" was superfluous. I should not have used the word.

Anyway, I think you're playing with me.

I think the main point is that nothing so far has happened that cannot be explained scientifically. The "psychic" may been just a really intuitive psychopath who coincidently put her on a plane doomed to crash. Jack may have been hallucinating images of his father due to lack of sleep as they suggested. We are left in infer that more is going on than meets the eye, but so far nothing unexplainable has happened.

EDIT: Hmm, LEO MARX wrote this book: The Machine in the Garden: Technology and the Pastoral Ideal in America

Could there be a machine in the Jungle? Interesting review on that internet site that sells books and dvd's, etc.

No he didn't. I heard it as "HE wasn't on the plane." I confirmed this by turning on the closed captioning and that indeed is what he says.

Confirmed. I rewatched this with my wife (had to tape it for her, she was out of town) and specifically listened to the whole end of the conversation. They cut to Ethan without telling us the name that's not on the manifest.

Maybe the psychic made up all the stuff about her baby needing to be raised by her just to convince her to get on that plane?

I too think he already knew about that plane crash for some reason other than any "psychic ability".

Careful there - closed captioning is far from accurate.

What if Ethan was on the plane and the name not on the manifest is someone who got Ethan to join their side?

Sayid said "there are others" when he came back, so maybe Ethan is just some henchman for the real person not on the plane?

just throwing that out there

we can come up with something new every second

It's great but you don't want to see it next year?

This is the most original TV show I can remember - ever. To have something like this come out of a sea of 'reality' shit is refreshing. I hope they can get at least 2, maybe 3 seasons out of it.

It's tricky. I love it but it's sort of like the Prisoner where it is begging for a one season arc and that's it, like a long movie. Of course, this is the US and not UK and we'll drag it out. In season 8, when Jack leaves the show to do movies, Kate and the born-again Sawyer get married and have a kid and Sayid discovers he's gay and falls in love with Hurley, who is svelte since the last thing Jack did before he "left" was give him a stomach staple using coconut husks and twine.

This show would be perfect for a two or three season stint. If each season is only supposed to take place over forty-some days - they could do the entire shows run taking place over 4-6 months. And they might as well figure it out soon and film the rest of the series and get the whole process over w/. It would be money well spent by Disney.

Yeah I was thinking of 2 or 3 being perfect. I also agree with Gil that you don't want it overdone.

The fact that such a great show is actually still possible in Reality Hell at all means to me that 2 or 3 seasons would not be 'overdoing' it. I know I didn't expect this great of a show (or I expected to love it & have it promptly cancelled for 'trading bachelors' or some shit like that).

2-3 would be good if it continues to follow the overall arc. It shouldn't be like 24 where the arc wraps up and it somehow starts over the next season. More like Alias for the first 1 1/2 seasons. I think they can pull it off. It's been so outstanding so far.

That reminds me of Ferris Bueller, when Cameron was saying, "Hey, batter batter swing, batter. He can't hit, he can't hit he can't hit"

The closed captions read: kennedy, kennedy, kennedy...

Many ways the "psychic" can be a fraud"

He can profit from Claire's baby on the black market easily.
How could he have known about the baby and the break up? - claire's friend could have been in on it and told him (what's to say she didn't?)
Flight 815 to Los angeles could have just been one of several pre-determined flights that's part of his scheme to send pregnant women to his contacts in the black market in LA. "It has to be this flight, it can't be any other" were his words. Well, sure, if she don't show up in LA, no profit for him. So what? he gives back her money - 200 per reading, and 6000 up front? psshaw, the adoption agency dude said claire would get 20,000 when she left the hospital and that was doing it legit. imagine how much it'd go for on the black market?
1. make woman think you're legit
2. get her on plane to shady LA contacts
3. ....
4. profit

(i'm just saying.)

and as for anagrams, I say anagrams shmanagrams...So Ethan Rom is an anagram for "The Namor." and the airline was Oceanic. Namor lives in the ocean. Ethan must be a fish!!!!!
