Here's my picks:

Best all-time TV Drama: The Prisoner
Honorable mention: Twin Peaks

Best all-time TV Comedy: All In The Family
Honroable mention: Cheers
Thanks make me happy to read. I just aquired all the eps of The Prisoner to watch and can't wait to get into it.

BTW Buffy is a great show, but Angel whoops that ass IMHO.

I couldn't call it the greatest show of all time because I'm a fickle bastard and change my opinion on that as often as the wind. It does rank high with me - mos def a top 10 show. There are still a ton of classic shows I have yet to see, so my scope is a bit on the small side.

Best show of all time? Have you ever actually watched any other television? While Buffy was very good, it gets Pwned by quite a few shows. How about:

* Babylon 5
* Star Trek (the old school Trek)
* MASH
* Doctor Who
* Monty Pythons Flying Circus
* Brisco County Jr.
* I Love Lucy
* The Twilight Zone
* You Bet Your Life
* Cosmos
* Rocky & Bullwinkle
* The Incredible Hulk

And that's just off the top of my head. If Buffy is then end all and be all of television for you, you really, really, REALLY need to branch out more.

That's up therer with Suddenly Susan, Dharma and Greg and Veronica's closet.

I do agree Buffy (until season 6) was one of the Best and original shows on TV but Angel has to be up there too.

Never really made a list although I do have my favorites:

Comedy

Mary Tyler Moore Show
Cheers
Seinfeld
News Radio
Wonder Years

Drama

St. Elsewhere
China Beach
Homicide

Sci Fi/Genre

First three Trek shows
Buffy
Angel
Farscape
B5
X-files

I watched a couple of episodes of Buffy and couldn't for the life of me see what all the hubbub is about. Don't plan on watching any more.

Well, I agree that it's the greatest show ever. But what do I know? I think S6 was Buffy's best season.

Believe me, It's your loss. I was a tough sell at first too but you need to watch more than an episode or two to appreciate the stories. People tend to think because of the name it's a kids show or a Monster show but it's so much more

Yeah, it's also a show about stuffy English librarians and lesbian witches!

Oh yeah, and contractors, too.

I dont consider anything on the WB "TOP" anything.

And nothing tops Seinfeld.

I can't believe it took a page and a half to mention Monty Python's Flying Circus in a thread about what shows are the best of all time.

Monty Python and Mr. Show would tie for me for best comedy, and Twin Peaks for best drama, with the first season of Nip/Tuck at its heels.

So many shows are excellent in different ways, I am a big fan of BTVS myself, and I see a lot of people listing "great" tv shows, but nowhere is The Sopranos mentioned. The Sopranos, while still a running show has been one of the best shows Ive ever watched.
