Six Feet Under or Dead Like Me?

Well I just got down with 24 for the first time and I have to say that, that is one damn amazing show, I loved this so much I did 10 episodes in one sitting...which is unheard of. I am going to wait on season 2 til my birthday comes, but I wanted to ask you guys what show should I try next Six Feet Under or Dead Like Me? Which show is more consistent? character devlopment? best storlines? Acting? and overall quality?

I love discovering these shows that I would never have known without DVD!!!!!

I haven't seen Dead Like Me, but Six Feet Under absolutely blew me away. It's got terrific characters, great writing, and much more. The only drawback is the...*ahem*...stiff retail price, but it's still worth the price of admission.

They're both good but very different. Six Feet Under is a deeper show (pardon the pun), with more serious themes and weighty character development issues. Dead Like Me is a comedy.

How often do you rewatch, or would expect to, these two shows? Given, depending on how/where you are purchasing them, there can be a $30 difference in price. Personally, given that, I would rather pick Dead Like Me and rent SFU since one would have to rewatch it atleast four times to equal retail cost of buying.

They are both worth watching and offer a different experience so I would base your decision atleast partly on how much value you would get from them versus possibly renting unless you have means to address that price gap.

I sold my Dead Like Me and so far am hanging onto my Six Feet Under for repeat viewing. (Like JoshZ said, it's a deeper show)

These shows couldn't be any different. Might as well ask "Diff'rent Strokes or St. Elsewhere?"

so "Six Feet Under" is not a comedy in any way? Which show depicts the deaths in a more violent fashion? Again, which one uses the most profanity

Six Feet Under is strictly rated R for the themes, violence, sexuality, and nudity... while Dead Like Me changes per episode from PG & PG-13 with Language and "weird elements"

Both shows have strong elements of black comedy, but Dead Like Me is more whimsical and less dark. Neither show is particularly violent, except perhaps for a couple of episodes in this most recent season of 6FU.

6FU has a lot of profanity. Dead Like Me has some, but as critterdvd says the show is more PG-13.

You can't go wrong with either show, they're both great in their own ways.

Not to detract from 6FU, but if someone put a gun to my head I'd choose Dead Like Me. Although billed as a comedy about grim reapers, it's got a surprising amount of emotion, depth, and character development (esp is S2, which isn't out on DVD yet). IMHO, 6FU occasionally stumbles wheras DLM was a lot more consitently entertaining.

But really, you can't go wrong with either.

I have decided to go with Dead LIke Me, at this time. Thanks for your suggestions they helped. I probably will revisit SIX FEET UNDER at some point in time along with The Sopranos.

Dead Like Me.
I enjoyed SFU S1, but couldn't get into the later seasons. It's more of a dark soap opera. Later seasons, imo, lost some of the comedy or surrealism or something that typified S1.
DLM has a bit of black comedy and the supernatural to it, while still doing well at showing the hidden depths of characters.

Always enjoy Six Feet Under. Watched the first few episodes of DLM Season One (dvd) and I was underwhelmed. Just couldn't get into the charachters...wasn't my cup o' tea, I suppose.

Me too. Maybe it was the "youngness" of it, although that didn't stop me from liking Buffy (though I prefer Angel--partly for its darkness and partly because the cast is older). I can't really diss DLM since I only watched a few episodes, but by the first few episodes of SFU, I was hooked.

Wow. The two aren't even close in my mind. Especially if you're comparing S1. One is a brilliant drama that happens to center around death. The other certainly has its fans, but I couldn't make it past more than 3 episodes. The characters were stale. The premise was intriguing, but it felt hollow to me, like they were making it up as they went along.

This is as bad the Simpsons/Family Guy comparisons. Not even close.

Dead Like Me is a great show, like it a lot, besides isn't SFU Cancelled after the next season?

Dead Like Me gets my nod. Great show with a nice mix of humor and drama. My wife and are bummed that the second season has ended and are really looking forward to the next one.
