yes, the main reason why yesterdays game was so important and life changing was because it was game 7 of a series that by all account, shouldn't have happened considering the history of baseball in general and was fueled with the whole bad blood that is there with the two teams. CBS pulled out, but the other networks figured to counter program or just go on. LOST was also pretty hot with a 10 household share. And das, if any station can't figure out that the reason why a certain program didn't get it's average number because of some event like this game being on really shouldn't be programing television. It's expected that some viewers will watch the game, it's no reason to mark a show as dead in the water just because it had a one show ratings slump. There are other factors that kill of most tv shows that don't survive. This shouldn't be part of it.

As for "You point" deftones.

I am not saying there isn't. But when you see the overnights for the Yankee/Sox game, you'll understand why all networks preempted their regular programming.
Your point was a little off from the get go when only ONE network decided to move away from it. The game got a 17.3/26 for FOX. ABC's "Lost" held up well against the game, posting a 10.2/16. Last week Lost got a 11.0/17.0. So the drop was not warrenting a CBS move of bumping it.

I think its funny that all the Red Sox fans who missed this week's LOST in order to watch game7 of the ALCS now cannot watch it's rerun on saturday either since its game1 of their world series

People who refuse to learn how to program their vcrs make me laugh

Numbers are king in this absurd game, and saving your programming for a night when it has a fighting chance is often a smart move.

One of the complaints people have that causes them to quit watching a show is inconsistency in the schedule. They tune in expecting their show, and it isn't there, which is what CBS (and no one else) decided to do... and with long advertised/promoted season premieres no less.

And if you tell your audience that you don't counterprogram against baseball games, they might well not show up next week when you are running these season premieres up against the potential clinching game of the World Series (if they were going to show up at all after being jerked around the week before).
