Stargate SG-1; Will I like it?

I'm cruising for a new series to start watching on DVD, and this looks to be a contender. I enjoyed the movie, but understand that the series has nothing to do with the film. Is this correct? How's the production value? Is it an arcish type series, or more stand-alone in construct?

series has a few difference from the movie but also has a lot in common, including a few of the actors for the lesser roles.
early on it's a bit more stand alone
I recommend it, especially if you like tv sci-fi

I couldn't get into the show myself, mostly b/c the cast just does nothing for me. I think the lead guy, from McGuyver? is boring, as is most of the cast.

If your looking for good sci-fi, start renting/buying Farscape. Blows Stargate away in production value, creativity.

I've already gone through Farscape and B5, so I'm now "reaching" .

I'm enjoying it. I picked it up when Sci-Fi restarted the series in the 6:00 timeslot. I'm almost to the end of the second season. It reminds me of Star Trek The Next Generation. Almost all are standalone episodes so far (i guess that changes?), you get alot of repeating plotlines... But overall it's pretty solid. Chances are if you liked the movie, and you like your typical Sci-Fi TV stuff, you'll like it.

Clark and Carman, most of the first two seasons are stand alone episodes. Some are great, and the ones that are bad, are really bad. But I think it kicks in, in season 3. big story arcs and referencing stuff from the first two seasons. Everything ends up having a purpose. Once the big stories start, there are minimal stand alone episodes. Seasons 3+ are excellent.

Does anyone know when the next Stargate Atlantis will air? They left off with a to-be-continued after the 10th episode. I can't find anything on when the next one will be.
