I had the same thought, but I think I've rationalized it to myself for now. They always board handicapped and first class passengers first. It's possible that he rolled up to the counter, they wheeled him into the plane and nobody from coach noticed. I know that I don't sit and stare at the wheelchair people getting seated first. Then, when the rest of the passengers board, he's already in there, but there's no reason to be suspicious that he got there early.

I convinced a friend to watch the show last night. He said he loved it. But, he's not going to watch it again. He was really annoyed by the commercial breaks, so he's holding out for the DVDs. (Fine, as long as you don't mind me ruining the ending for you!!)

The big reveal - my wife missed the first few minutes of the show when they showed Locke wiggling his toe. When he did it again later on, I explained to her, obviously something is up with his foot, because they are being obivous about it, but neither of us had a clue what was up.

I can't believe all the twists they pulled off. He's on the phone being called Colonel, I know he was making plans for lunch, but I didn't know he was going to be a cubicle geek. But then we find out who Helen is, didn't see that one coming, that was a nice small twist. Then when the camera pans and you see his wheelchair. Wow, it took a second for my brain to catch up to what was going on.

Great episode. I just hope JJ doesn't over do it (a la Alias Season 2).

I missed a few minutes of the show. Can someone spoiler who Helen was?

Spoiler:
They gave the impression Helen was his gf/wife. Via flashback, they show she's actually just a woman on a 900 number that Locke calls.

yeah, redinger, good point. i realized he was probably a preboard. and then , who boards after preboards? first class... anyone survive from first class? i don't think anyone did. And of course no one saw him in the wheelchair when he landed because, um, they didn't land. well, they did, but not correctly.

so the only people that probably saw him in his wheelchair are dead.

Or they just don't remember seeing him in a wheelchair. When I fly on a plane, I don't take mental notes on the people sitting around me. When you ride the bus, can you recall (even just a few hours later) who you were standing next to, what they were carrying, etc? I would wager that most people wouldn't.

I think...

it would be very interesting if we do see the tail section again. First off, it would give the writers a whole other set of people to work their magic with and it's not nuts that a group is on the other side of the island. On top of that, it would be great if they did that because they (the writers) can get all the viewers worked up over who did it, why, etc. And just when you think you know so and so caused the crash, BAM, there's another group with secrets of their own. Also, everyone is wanting the tail section to show up, so you know it will. Everything else they've wanted has.

i wouldn't remember if I just saw a guy in a wheelchair in the airport, but i'd remember once i got to the gate.

i always remember who preboards, cause I am constantly judging people. I have to see if they actually deserve to preboard.

I'm with you. I hate people that pre-board because they have a 6 yo kid. I love how the dad is always carrying the kid and the kid is asking to be put down.

Anyways, love the episode. JJ must really have something for the name Jack.

or people that are "elderly."

just because you have grey hair doesn't mean you should preboard.

His loss. Why not just use a Video recorder or better yet....tivo?

Great show last night. I wonder how Locke saw the creature and survived to get back to camp?
The suit guy that kept appearing was spooky.

oh, and i meant to post this earlier.

I think it was indeed obvious that locke did not kill the boar, but got it after the "monster" was done with it.

That is what they refer to as a 'water landing.'

The theory about Kate being an environmental terrorist is a good one.

About Locke... I also believe has paralysis was psychological. From what we saw in the flashbacks, he's a very lonely, isolated man, and handicapping himself psychologically certainly seems within the realm of possibility.

I also think that he's on his "walkabout" on the island, which might account for his strange behavior from time to time.

It also puts his "seeing" the "monster" in a certain amount of context as well, and it also occurred to me that the "monster" might also have killed the boar instead of Locke when I saw the ep. That Locke might not want them to get off of the island is certainly an interesting theory... out there he's certainly got a new chance at redefining himself, and I'd wager that he much prefers who he is on the island to who he was before.

Also did anyone catch that the last two eps have focused on two people (Kate and Locke) who were on the plane because they were running away from their old lives? I'm getting the sense that a lot of the characters -- the Korean couple, Jack, Charlie, Shannon, Sayid, the pregnant girl -- are running away from something in their pasts.

So what's up with Sayid and the picture of the woman? Wife? Sister? Was she on the plane? Or was she murdered by Saddam's regime?

Also... and Babylon 5 fans might want to take note...
Spoiler:
Mira Furlan
will be guest-starrring in an episode 11. (From the IMDB)

I'm guessing the pictures of the woman were Sayid's wife. Since he was so far from home I wouldn't make any assumptions of her being dead.

and yeah, i definitely believe that you figured it all out, hippie.

I don't have it all figured out, I just happen to be good at foreshadowing.

Water landings work (sometimes) if the plane comes in with full flaps, typical landing speed and proper attitude and flares out.

A plane without its tail section has no stability, so even if the wings are sort of intact it is not going to be "flying" and is going to hit with random attitude at 400+ miles per hour and 70° glide angle. The tail section won't have any lift or much air resistance and will probably auger in supersonic.

Reality would be more like the PA flight on 9/11 or TWA flight that blew up near Long Island (TWA 800? not sure I have # right). Of course, then we wouldn't have a tv show.

The only problem with the tail section is that according to the flashback, the tail section should be at least a couple of hundred miles away.

My guess for the next reveal
Spoiler:
Jack is not really a doctor, when he mentioned medicine being a family business, all of a sudden a father like figure appears looking disapproving. I think he was either never a doctor, or he really lost the patient during the spinal surgery described in episode 1, and is running from his past

Sorry. I was being sarcastic. But hey, it's TV, plus you never know...

It's true, unfortunately! I've been meaning to watch Office Space, but was waiting for an SE of that DVD for years. Maybe I'll rent it.

And about folks who claim to have seen the twist coming: I spoke to a patient this AM who wanted to talk about this ep She said she was previously married to a quadraplegic guy and he wiggled his toes just like that. The moment she saw Locke doing that she figured he was wheelchair bound, and that the actor obviously had done his homework. I thought that was kinda interesting

How on earth can this show last more than 2 seasons? Plus, all the extras mulling around really irritate me, hopefully theres a mass killing and we whittle it down to 20 or so main characters.

Gilligan's Island lasted 5....with 3 made-for-tv movie sequels.
