I don't believe they told anyone about the polar bear.
Yeah I know..should have clarified. Why DIDN'T they though, no reason not too, the reasoning for not telling about the message was because of not wanting people to lose hope or whatever, but that doesn't fit with the polar bear. I'd be running into camp blabbing about it "you ain't gonna freaking BELIEVE what we saw."

Why didn't they follow the path that the polar bear made?

After he shot it they could have followed the path. Probably led to an ark or something.

Hey, an ARK, that's an idea! So, the "maybe there've been other crashes" hints, plus the weird animals, plus whoever ran the ark must've read comics in spanish...

I think the polar bear is an allegory for God, while the island itself is a symbol of life. The body is made up of 98% water, and what's surrounding the island? 100% water. Coincidence? If so, then you must accept that the polar bear, the dog, and the single bullet were also 'coincidences' which would make three mighty strange coincidences indeed.

The plane isn't really a plane, it's more like a 'plane of existence' that leads people to 'the island.' Similar to both Gilligans Island and The Prisoner, they are people stuck at the village and called #6 with no comfortable, safe place to do a #2. I predict we'll see more and more about french girls and polar bears as time wears on, but probably not too much for me!

The amount of silly guesses here is outweighing the actual real discussion.

The Marshall seems to have a personal animus against Kate. Judging by his comments, I think she mainipulated him, possibly giving in to him while in America, in order to escape, hence his intense pursuit of her and his advice to Jack to not trust her, no matter what she says ot how she tries to get to him. Her original offense doesn't have to have been that major for this to have escelated.

I would also like her to be genuinely amoral, if not exactly "bad", but preferably not a terrorist or anything with violence. (If she was genuinely bad or cruel, she'd have killed Farmer McAussie in his sleep and not stressed over his reward.)

World class thief would be perfect.

Kind of like Catwoman

Anyone remember Nick Carter as one of the Eagle? pilots on Space 1999?

I hope they go into all the main passengers back stories just as they did with Kate. Maybe all the passengers have some unknown connections that will be illuminated in the future.

Wonder if Locke will be the first casualty?

Just don't read the silly guesses, and it should be okay.

(re: wounds and being unscathed) Well except for the marshall and the people who died in the crash.
Don't forget the back wound Jack had that Kate had to sew up.

I think we got a glimpse that his bark is much worse than his bite. He was shaken and broken after he shot the marshall. There is definitely more to his story than the stereotypical redneck. We started to see that last night.
It was also shown in one of the very first shots of Redneck in the pilot. He's sitting down and reading a letter, and either acting emotional or outright crying.

It didn't really show how far away they were from the beach, but it seems there was a good chance that the rest of the survivors would've heard the gunshots when they killed the bear.
Depending on how far away they were, the sound of the surf might have masked a faraway gunshot.

I think I've seen him several times as an older guy playing character parts and never made the connection before... Thanks!

That ark thought above is close to what I was thinking - a boat was transporting exotic animals but was shipped wrecked 16 years ago. Or not.

Interesting theory. I like it. Seems plausible, especially if there isn't supposed to be a "sci-fi" angle to the story.

Never thought of a shipwreck, definitely more plausible I guess than a plane crashing with a bunch of animals and them surviving.

if they find a bunch of dead bodies somewhere I hope they find one with a red shirt and white bucket hat next to it.

Go here if you want lots of spoilers, including photos:

http://lostmultimedia.beyondgrey.com/

One of the many links they list is extremely spoilerific, from E!:

http://www.eonline.com/Gossip/Kristi...04/040927.html

Summarized...
Spoiler:
- BOTH of the Koreans can speak English, and eventually will.
- Locke "knows a lot of things, and people aren't exactly sure how he has all this knowledge"... that could go in a lot of different directions... does he know a lot of things about the island, or fellow castaways, or particle physics, or something else?
- There is something more to Michael & Walt's relationship... hopefully not in a Michael Jackson way or something.

Yes, see Seinfeld.

I love this show!

I really thought about not watching this and waiting for the DVD. I bet this will play very well in a marathon.

But, I couldn't resist...

DVD needs to include:
1. Longer versions of each show: 5 to 10 minutes
2. Making of
3. Deleted sceens
4. Clues to what is really going on

Maybe if the DVD sells really well it will help offset the cost of the show and next season we will not have to have so many commersial breaks.

I'm with you. I enjoy this show quite a bit (at least as much as I can enjoy it based on 3 episodes), and I would prefer to let the story unfold as JJ sees fit.

It's working so far.

How is one related to the other? I really like this show, and I'm going to keep watching it... I'm just interested in where it's going.

For me, there is a big difference between wanting to remain spoiler-free and knowing specifically where a storyline is going. The same reason I no longer read Aint It Cool News (well, one of the reasons, anyways). I don't want to know all the specific twists and turns of an upcoming movie/series that I'm looking forward to.

I'm all for talk-around-the-water-cooler speculation, I just don't want to know certain plot points before they are revealed. It kind of ruins the fun of the show for me. I know some people enjoy knowing what's coming - it's just that I don't.

And I know I should probably just avoid this thread altogether for that reason, but I do enjoy hearing theories - which to me are different from "in episode 5 a rabid water buffalo kills and eats the Korean guy" -I just made up the water buffalo thing, btw

I was thinking that myself. Some sort of transport ran aground, and it is an animal that is obviously an herbivore.

Although a Polar Bear isn't, maybe there were alot of animals that did, and they began to reproduce, so there's a large population now.
