"It's not a show about people on an island running from something. The story is really about these characters." |
This show is so good, I was totally into it. The french woman's voice being loops sent chills down my spine.
I wanted to know that secret from the creepy backgammon guy. I also wondered if they took the polar bear back for food. Hmmm.... |
I can't remember the last time I saw a show so original and interesting. I can't wait to learn more about all the characters, like the Japanese couple. One thing, if they are going to be on that island for a while, the fat guy would be rail thin in about a month. I wonder if the actor will be losing weight to correspond with his character. :)

Kate is FINE, and sure looked good in the gratuitous shots at the beach, although her bra looked a bit padded.

It really plays out like a movie with no ending that way, instead of feeling like it ends too soon. Can't wait to see what happens next. |
Can't wait for next Wednesday, just like everyone else!
Great episode. |
I wouldn't have thought it possible...but I'm actually more in love with Kate, now http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...mileys/wub.gif
That article worries me, though. First dip in ratings, this show goes the way of the nearly dozen quality (or potential) dramas ABC has canned since '98. |
Does anyone else see another Carnivale in the making? Carnivale seem to build to this big payoff that never happened. I still liked it but, like many, came away disappointed when the season ended. Lost looks like it has the potential to go the same way. I just have a feeling that a lot of strange things are going to happen that will never be explained satisfactorily... It has a spot on my ReplayTVs this season for sure, so we'll see.
|
I'm thinking less Carnivale and more Gilligan's Island. Someone is going to sink the life raft or smash the coconut radio. I just haven't figured out which one is Gilligan is yet. Right now my money is on the rich bitch.
I loved that it was a polar bear chasing them! rotfl Couple of good twists to the show. |
A polar bear???
WTF? |
Yup. the island is a strange place.
|
Great episode. Yes the first few minutes were a little ho-hum but it was supposed to be part of a two-hour ep, not the beginning of a one-hour ep so it still works. I so can't wait for next week's episode.
|
I don't know how out of left-field this guess is, but I think the Terry O'Quinn character has been on this island before.
|
I think they said they'll air the full two-hour version on Saturday.

Yes Saturday night

More than caracter development- something most don't mention here, is that the message has been playing for 16 years and they ask 'where are we?'. It's impossible for a message on Earth to played for 16 years without being picked up so to me, it's as if they ended up either in another era or another planet.
|
We need a pic of Kate on the beach - ASAP!!!
|
This is the best new show I've seen on TV probably since The Sopranos over on HBO, and the best show I've seen on ABC since Twin Peaks.
Those looking for "answers" - don't be too eager. As I mentioned in last week's postings, the problem with shows like these is that if you give away too many secrets, people stop watching and if you don't give away enough secrets, people stop watching. But I think JJ Abrams has enough mysteries up his sleeve that we will get "rewards" as the show moves on without answering ALL the questions. |
Can someone give me a somewhat detailed synopsis of what happened? (maybe in spoiler tags) I had to work late yesterday and missed this show.
|
What are your guys thoughts on the Polar Bear being on a tropical island? I am thinking that maybe other people(scientists) are on the island or visit that island for experimentation maybe. That looked like a pretty big polar bear but is probably not even as half as big as to what we are going to see and what the characters on the Island have seen previously

The end IS how a typical J.J. Abrams show should be. Those familiar with Alias are more than ready for a episode's cliffhanging revelatory moment follow by.... BLACKOUT... LOST Excellent! Like Alias I'm almost wishing I just had the season set on DVD already so I could plow forward. I have to wait a whole week?!?! ABC - do NOT cancel this show! |
Great show.
My only concern is they may be setting expectations they can never fulfill. As someone above said, they might build up the mysteries of the island to the point that no explanation satisfies the audience and only pisses it off. If I was an actress, I'd be knocking down JJ's door right now. Keri Russell, Jennifer Garner, now this chick. Is there any question she'll soon be playing the gf of a Ben Affleck or Nicolas Cage in a theater near you? It will be interesting to see how much they delve into the physical effects of the island. Will they show them all losing weight, or will they cop out and pretend they're all eating enough fruit and fish to maintain? Will they show some of them going through nicotine withdrawl? Are they going to spend 3 or 4 episodes dealing with the Hobbit's withdrawl? And how many tampons are on this island anyway? :) My ONLY quibble was they didn't spring for a real shot of the polar bear. Having some noise and then showing some fur is something a cheaply-budgeted show would do, made it seem like a UPN production. Would it have killed them to CGI up a polar bear? |
