Watched it before the game today. Surprisingly, I didn't care much for it. The beginning was fairly intriguing, but once Fox, the hottie and the hobbit went looking for the cockpit, it just lost me.

I'll stick with it a little longer though...

WTF? I check the listings for tonight to confirm that Lost is going to be on like people were saying here and instead it's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Lost isn't on til Tuesday and it will only be the second half.

THIS SUCKS!

They're only showing the full 2 hours next Saturday.

Just watched it here - Interested enough to want to keep watching (for now). The "monster" .. hmm, it sounded like metal to me when it first appeared, so I'm going with a secret government "killer rpbot" project that got dumped on the island when the government lost control of it. Hey, that's as plausible as giant apes!

In my experience, it's always best to watch things out of order. This is what made "Undeclared" such a huge hit! So watch the second episode first.

Same logic applies to Firefly.

I finally got around to actually watching the version that aired on wednesday (I saw the full 2hour pilot over the summer).

I have to say that I liked Michael Giacchino's score much better than the music tracked in from James Horner's Aliens on the internet leaked version.

Also I thought the "creature" made much better sound effects on the final version.

Did anybody think that maybe the creature that they heard and saw moviing trees could be unrelated to whatever dragged the pilot out of the cockpit and plopped him on the tree tops?

Finally watched this on my ReplayTV, so I'm a little late to this thread. A few thoughts... The dog clearly belongs to the father/son. The kid looked depressed/sad then brightened and said "Maybe it's Vincent?" when he heard the strange sounds. The dog is named Vincent and belongs to them. It has been traumatized and freaked out. It will probably come out of hiding soon if it doesn't get killed.

As to what might sound familiar to the lady from the Bronx, I know this sounds crazy but maybe a garbage truck? To me, the thing has a distinct metallic/mechanical sound to it when moving. Perhaps it is some kind of robotic monster with arms. I know one thing, it isn't any normal ape, tiger, or whatever other animal some have suggested. They don't generally make the earth shake and put bodies in very tall trees. The thing, whatever it is, is huge. It really doesn't make a lot of sense (other than purely for the contrived drama) that no one saw it. Of course, maybe it's invisible.

Big Boy Laroux,

As already stated, they aren't even in the right ocean for that.

I heard someone else suggest that maybe the island had ice age animals that somehow survived and evolved (like giant turtles on the Galapogos Islands). Whatever creature(s) survivored made it through the ice age and prospered. I like that theory.

Maybe a mastodon or wooly mammoth?

Doesn't have to be "THE" bermuda triangle....could be the same anomaly elsewhere.

Yeah, good idea bumping a year old thread instead of posting in the Lost General thread.

I was afraid if I posted in there I'd come across a spoiler for a later episode

I'd say this is the safer bet. There are always untagged spoilers in the other threads. Good luck reading through them all if you attempt it. I think it will take you less time to watch the whole season than to attempt that.

You should be ashamed of yourself for saying that. You saw Jurassic Park III in theaters?

Well at least we were reminded of why Sawyer said "There's a new sheriff in town." He has a damned badge!
