[Obligatory]Does Greedo shoot first in this one?[/obligatory]

I'm actually not sure if I should watch this or just wait for the whole thing that's on the DVD. I believe in this broadcast they conly cover 45 mins on Star Wars and about 15 each for Empire and Jedi.

There are other showings at 10:00 pm ET and 12:00 am ET so you can catch it then if you are watching something else at 8:00 pm ET/10:00 pm ET. I'll be passing and wait to watch it on DVD.

I watched the first hour of this at work and there was some great behind-the-scenes stuff, I'll watch the rest later on one of the repeats as I don't plan on buying the set.

Is this for sure a shortened version of what will be in the set? If so I'll have to rent the bonus disc.

I didn't want to watch it, but like always I've been sucked into the Star Wars tractorbeam. I'll watch it again at 10pm, and again when I buy the set!!

I noticed a few NON-SE scenes were shown in the documentary that were changed in the final filme (Death Star blowing up & Han chases Stormtroopers into a dead-end.) Also some shots of the Luke/Biggs scene in the desert.

? Han chases the stormtroopers into a dead-end in every release of the film or VHS. In the SE, Lucas altered it so that he ran into a room full of stormtroopers as opposed to only 6-7.

Death Star blows up twice...once in ANH and once in ROTJ.

I noticed that too. How awkward. The Lucas haters will have a field day if that's in the final documentary.

Wow, it was good. I cant believe they showed the original opening without the EPISODE IV on it... never saw that before nor did I ever think I would. It was also nice to see some of the original footage during the docu. At least we can say that we have both the original scenes and the new scenes on DVD

Not all of us are Lucas haters. I still profoundly respect his talent and his right as an artist to decide what to do with his own work. Part of the Star Wars legacy belongs to all of its fans in a sense because it was such a huge part of our lives and we have a right to be disappointed with the changes. But in the end it is his creation and not just someone who simply owns legal rights to it.

I just don't see the harm in allowing the original versions to be made available on DVD for those who want them. Those us (esp. from my Generation) who watch Star Wars over and over again do it to try to re-experience what we experienced in the theatre back then. Its like looking at an old photograph from our lives. How would it be if all of a sudden everyone in those old photos were "updated" to have modern hair cuts and clothes? "That's not how I remembered it" It messes with our collective experience and someone like Lucas who understands the role mythology in life should understand what that means.

I saw a review of the SW dvds that says the doc is 151 minutes. Without commercials, the A&E one was probably 90 minutes.

Did anyone else find this kind of "dry"? The Indiana Jones documentary was a lot of fun to watch...I found this one rather dull, with only splashes here and there of info I was interested in, or hadn't heard before. I just didn't find a lot to interest the "Star Wars buff"...seemed more like a documentary geared toward the uninformed. Just my two cents...

Overall I thought it was nowhere near "dry" - I consider myself an avid fan and I saw/heard some things I've never heard before. It kept my interest through 3 partial viewings last night, and it certainly will when I see the full version next Tues.

Not dry...in fact, some of it was so awesome I was nearly in tears, just thinking how awesome Star Wars and Lucas' accomplishments are... holy shit. I only watched the last HALF of the doc, because I caved. I'm watching it when I buy the discs, and I heard the part that got chopped the most for A&E was the stuff covering Empire and Jedi (which I watched) so I'll look forward to seeing only about 40 minutes of overlap. this was excellent though.

Hmm...that's interesting, because there was little I found to be revealing or what I would categorize as "new info". Granted, I had forgotten about a lot of the stuff they covered, but I remembered it when they brought it up again. Maybe I enjoyed the Indy doc more because I didn't follow those films as closely when they were being made.

If nothing else, the documentary just shows what a genius Lucas was. Not in terms of creating such a cool world of characters, places, ships, etc., but in terms of negotiations with production companies. He forever changed the industry.
