I was nearly in tears, just thinking how awesome Star Wars and Lucas' accomplishments are.
It was cool to see the interviews. It just made me wish even more that he had had Kasdan write the prequels.

My favorite part was Harrison describing George's directing process and doing his GL impression: "It's right there! I wrote it...just do that!"
I think that's the most animated I've seen him be in any documentary/interview setting. That cracked me up.

I only watched the first half (will watch the rest tonight) but I thought it was great! Good history and insight on the process of getting a film made then, from the Hollywood perspective.
Love Ralph MacQuarie's art. It was good to see him in an interview.

More on the topic several people called to tell me it was on and I was like "I know, but its gonna be on the DVD anyway" but then I caved in and watched about a half hour of it.

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
Oh man, I watched this twice when it was on (and DVR'ed it - A&E showed 1 hour and 23 minutes when commercials were cut, or 83 out of the 151 minutes, which is about half of the total doc).
Great doc - it really went deeper than I thought it would, and seeing both the cleaned-up original shots (from the original negatives!) and the cleaned-up SE shots were very very cool.
There were a tonne of shots from the original unaltered films. So exciting and also of course a reminder of how disappointing that those versions aren't on the DVDs. But it's nice to have some original scenes on DVD form in the documentary - hopefully there will be more of that in the longer version of the doc.
Can't wait!

I finally got around to watching this, and it was pretty darn good. I really wish they had made it 10 years ago and shown it to George, because I think it did a fantastic job showing all of his strengths as well as his weaknesses. You really got a sense of what Kershner brought to the table and why Empire was a superior film, and I loved Harrison Ford describing Lucas' trouble being patient with actors. I've often made the same criticism, suggesting that he spend less time in the director's chair and more time as a story advisor and special effects trailblazer, so it was good to hear someone talk -- albeit briefly -- about this issue. Sadly, this lesson was never learned, but watching this documentary helped remind me of what I loved about these films the first time around.
