I partially agree. I really enjoyed the seasons with Ben Stone, especially season 1. That's probably my favorite of the Ben Stone seasons and I liked Dzundza/Greevey.
However IMO the very best of L&O was the next 5 or 6 seasons or so (just an estimate) with Waterson and the trio of ADAs of Kincaid/Hennessy, Ross/Lowell, and Carmichael/Harmon and cop duos of Briscoe and Logan or Curtis. Green is just OK IMO. Those are the bread and butters season with Waterson and Briscoe as leads and any of those other ADAs and cops. They are a first for me with the first 4 season with Ben Stone as a close second.

The first 4 seasons with Ben Stone is probably my second favorite and the current (now final) cast members are pretty strong as well.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but didn't want to start a new one. Anyway, I'm watching this Law & Order marathon on TNT and an episode from 2000 had Kevin Smith in a bit part (according to IMDb it was his first acting gig). Just caught me by surprise.

Not sure if you're being facetious there, but Kevin Smith definitely did do a L&O episode where his character had supplied a keg for an underage party. Although I'm pretty sure he acted in some movies before 2000. Not a lot of speaking lines though...

I used to watch the various versions of Law & Order a bunch but got sort of burnt out on them (especially Special Victims Unit which got repetitive fast). My favorite is probably Criminal Intent during the Gorem and Eames years. The original Law & Order was best with Briscoe and Green and later Green and Fontanta (after Orbach passed away and was replaced with Farina).

Jill Hennessy was always my favorite ADA but lately I've been warming up to Angie Harmon.

Obviously it wasn't Kevin Smith and I was curious as to who you really meant. One name I came up with was Ty Burrell, who appeared in season 11, episode 2 according to this site: http://mentalfloss.com/article/54525...-out-law-order
Ah, I see why you were confused (my own fault). When I looked at his IMDb page, I forgot they split it by movies and TV so L&O was his first TV show appearance.

Oh, sorry. I was thrown off by "first acting gig" since of course he had appeared in his own films. Although IMDB does have something called Big Helium Dog for 1999.

To me Law and Order is like Star Trek TOS; your flipping the channels and you happen to catch an episode already playing and you can't help but finish it. Even the o.k. episodes are way better than most of the garbage today.

Yeah I agree with that. Overall they're pretty good shows (all the various versions) for being network procedurals. It really is a shame that after all the years it was on the air that BBC just outright cancelled the original series. Not that it's the kind of series that exactly needed a definitive ending due to all the cast changes over the years but still.

Re: I Hate Law & Order Marathons
Yeah, I loved Jill Hennessy as Claire Kincaid and was sad when her character departed. Harmon's character, Abby Carmichael, could be a stone cold bitch at times though. The worst obviously was Elizabeth Rohm's Serena Southerland character. I can't really blame the writers on the character since Rohm's robotic acting style bored me to death. Rohm's character is probably best known for this hilarious probably unintentional scene:
Yeah, that came out of nowhere. Lol
I didn't mind Serena because the rest over the cast carried the weight in great fashion.
My issue is it was the strongest of the franchise and Jeremy Sisto and Anthony had great chemistry. The new Ada was killing it and Connie was bueatiful as ever. Nbc pulled the plug but kept SVU going.
My head hurts. I understand given the demographic, but it just hurts.

Completely agree. The cast at the end was one of the better groups and worked very well together. How the original was pulled and SVU stayed (and is still going) is beyond me. The original was the best variant and should still be on air.

Thanks for the props Noonan. I am actually bitter over the 'divorce'.

Orbach was replaced but not because of his death but because the Briscoe character moved on to the Trial By Jury spin off. He only did two ep. before he died.

I didn't like Harmon when the show was still on, but I've warmed up to her considerably through reruns, too. While Hennessy was my favorite at one point, Alana de la Garza ended up knocking her from the top.

I've honestly never seen a single episode of any of the Law and Order shows. If I start now, I can quickly catch up on the couple episodes I missed though, right?

That's pretty crazy to never have seen an episode of any of the various versions. There's been five versions in the US (Law & Order, Special Victims Unit, Criminal Intent, Trial By Jury, and Law & Order: LA) plus there was a UK version as well as some other overseas versions that didn't last as long over the past twenty-five years. Plus the fact that it airs so much in syndication I would think most people would come across it even if unintentionally.

Never seen a single episode of any version, although I think I know the theme song somehow.

And I watch my share of TV.
