Great episode and a great set-up for the season finale. Those claiming the show had "jumped the shark" need to come back in here and admit they were wrong.

I'm not sure if this was the best epsiode ever - but it certainly had the most affect on me...I feel like I just lost a member of the family and am feeling a little sick to my stomach.

Is Tony beyond redemption now? I certainly think so. How many of his family are going to have to suffer for his sins? I have a feeling tonight's episode was just one of many losses we're going to see in the 11 shows that are left.

Bust 05-23-04 09:16 PM

All right, I'm the guy they got hook, line, and sinker. I didn't see the whacking coming until he pulled off the highway. I kept thinking to myself, "Where is this freaking hospital? " rotfl

I also agree that this episode has me feeling the most emotional about what happened. I can't even imagine...

Was anyone else thinking that the episode was about to end when we got the scene of Adrianna in the car by herself heading under the interstate signs? The music and everything else really had me set up, and when it cut to her in the car with Sylvio, I started to put the pieces together, and apparently she did as well.
Yup, thought the same thing, like she'd maybe head for Canada. Then saw Silvio and thought, "Oh yeah, Tony did say he was sending Sil to pick her up..." I wonder at what point she realized she was a goner? Sil was talking about Chris bein' OK right up until he pulled off the road...

I literally watched the last 15 minutes with my mouth open. What an incredible episode -eek-, probably my new favorite Sopranos episode of all time. I need to rewatch it (HD-Tivo!!!) to be sure.

i honestly don't think she knew until he friggin got out of the car.....at least based on the look on her face when he parked and got out.....it hit her all of a sudden.

I think she realized it when she started to see the forest, and I also think that Sil was more or less toying around with her talking about Chris once they got into the area.
This ep. did a good job of humanziing Adrianna, showing her mother and exploring her detoriorating health, as well as her being hopelessly trapped. This makes the end with her in the car all the more powerfull; she starts to break down and realize that it's all over with a "I don't want to die," look on her face. I will say that I think she might have seen her death as inevitable with time, but not as immediate as it happened. I'm just sure that with all of the whackings that have occurred in the woods over time, and with Christopher no doubt talking about them, she put two and two together a moment before. Sad when you think about it. :( On top of that, she could be quite a hottie at times.

uteotw 05-23-04 09:30 PM

It did seem like she realizing her time was up along the way, as she started to get just a bit more weepy. And it wasn't any less powerful because the didn't show the end up close. So did Christopher know as soon as he walked out that he'd never see her again? I think so. The "I love you" had an ominous sense about it.

Guess we know Carmella's price tag (and she's basically always had one): $600K

Not sure about Tony being "beyond redemption." I'm just so glad he didn't cower before Johnny S. and turn over his own cousin...

Bust 05-23-04 09:33 PM

I don't think Christopher made up his mind until he saw what "could have been".

Exactly. He really did go out to clear his head but once he saw that poor family and all those kids he did not want any of that. And Adrianna knew her time was up as they were getting closer to "nowhere", that's why she was being so emotional.

Great episode. Not only does it set up for a nice season finale but shit will be going down next season as well. :) What a great show!

Josh-da-man 05-23-04 09:55 PM

Okay, how stupid was Adrianna?

Let's see. She tells Chris that she's been working with the feds for the past year, and then asks him to do the same. He takes off.

And then she gets a call from Tony, telling her he wants her to take a little ride alone with Sylvio.

I mean, Jesus, the handwriting was on the wall. She at least should've called the feds so they could tail them if she was going to get in the car with him.

And also, if I was that close to these guys (and especially if I'm ratting on them) I'd be carrying a ****ing gun with me everywhere I went.

Nefarious 05-23-04 10:08 PM

I thought her weepiness was guilt for Christopher. Silvio kept telling her how he was going to be ok, blah blah blah. She had the sort of "what's going on?" reaction when Silvio stopped the car and got out.

Don't feel bad. It had me too. And I really pride myself on being able to figure things out ahead of time. Great episode though.

Question: Is the land that Tony wants to buy for Carmela the same land where Adriana was shot? Or at least, in the same neck-of-the-woods? The two scenes looked very similar. I mean, I realize that the fall season is happening in both places, just that the trees looked the same.

Ted The Bug 05-23-04 10:42 PM

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned yet that Carmela and Tony are now back together. Thoughts?

Ted The Bug 05-23-04 10:43 PM

Oh yea, and it Carmine Jr. dead or not? If he's not dead, did he just bow out gracefully, IE, tell Johnny that he can have NY and just return to Florida?

What happened to that girl that was in Maxim, that said she was going to be playing Carmine Jr's wife this season. Did she ever appear at all besides the funeral scene for Carmine Sr?

I'm pretty sure he just bowed out gracefully and let Johnny take over the NY family. I think Pauli said something to the extent of, "that pansie". That' my take on the whole thing.

Charlie Goose 05-23-04 11:05 PM

Finally, a GREAT episode! I can't wait for the rest of the season! Oh wait, there's only one show left. ;)

Christopher loves the Life more than he loved the Girl.

That Silvio is one coldblooded, executing, sononfagun.

I didn't watch the previews, but this can't be the last we see of Tony B.

The female agent said, "She could be in China right now!", and other two gave her a "yeah, right" look.

Patman 05-23-04 11:11 PM

I thought it was sloppy work by the FBI. Why wasn't Ade/Chris's place under surveillance, and why wasn't her car also being tracked.

You knew Chrissy was going to run to Uncle Tony after seeing his other future (at the gas station where some poor schlub has 3 kids, a pregnant wife, and driving a beater). Too bad Chrissy didn't have the ball just to just choke Ade to death. Wuss.

After that, it was anti-clamatic for me because from a story-telling perspective, getting rid of Ade is the mob's only move. Though Chrissy's days are probably numbered as well.

Now, if Tony S would have just offed Johnny in their undignified meet, now that would have been cool.

Tony's moving back into the house doesn't come without more stimuli to cause him more panic attacks. He looked like a whupped puppy in that last scene.

Bust 05-23-04 11:14 PM

Nice how the last we saw of Chris this episode was Tony kicking the shit out of him.

madcougar 05-23-04 11:24 PM

Powerful episode. I figured that Adrianna would either die or leave before the season was over, but it was still a surprise to see it happen. This episode really laid the ground work for what should be a great final season.

Looks like two weeks from now will be the beginning of the end for Tony Soprano. I think Johnny Sac will get Chrissy first, since he's said in the past that he should "wait in the car" instead of opening his mouth at the meetings. I just hope the Sac ( my nickname for him) doesn't get it. He's one of my fave characters.

For all of you who were hooked in until Sil pulled off the road: Didn't you notice that we first saw Adrianna driving in the car by herself, with her suitcase in the passenger seat, before abruptly cutting to her in the passenger seat and Silvio driving? The clear implication at that point is that she's thinking about how she could be driving off by herself right now, but instead, she's doomed herself. She clearly knew what was coming to her, but it was too late to do anything about it.

I have to disagree. I just watched it again. Her face when he stops the car and gets out gives it away that she had no idea what was coming.

She was "daydreaming" about leaving herself not because she knew she was about to die, but because she was obviously going to be in a lot of trouble once they got to the hospital. I can't really explain myself right now, but I hope you get what I mean.
