Johnny Staccato-Is Anybody Watching?
I've been a big fan of Johnny Staccato ever since I saw an episode screening at the American Cinematheque in LA as part of their "Noir TV" series. I ended buying VHS bootlegs of this show on eBay, but now Trio has been airing beautiful, pristine prints of it every night.
Johnny Staccato is a Peter Gunn-style detective show with a twist starring John Cassavetes as a cool jazz piano-playing PI who carries a gun and rights wrongs. Cassavetes directed several episodes and future Cassavetes stars like Gena Rowlands had guest shots on this show. Even SCTV did a parody of it ("Vic Arpeggio" played by Joe Flaherty). Anybody else watching Johnny Staccato?

Yup. I started a thread in the movie forum, but I don't think it got any response. I'd never heard of the show until Trio started showing it, but I've caught 10 or 12 episodes & it's been a lot of fun. Seems to range from daring & cool to over the top funny. Always a pleasure to watch. All the famous faces in guest roles are just bonus.
Looks like Trio is rerunning several episodes again next week from 8 to 9.
