I am with you. I like the season. It has it's moments, but I don't go in expecting to like every second.

However, the Carmella slo mo was a very bad idea. For a 1/2 second, I thought my HD receiver was having a problem (which unfortunately is not that uncommon) then it was apparent this was intentional. But that only took me away from the story and aware of that they had just done something in editing, which is not good. It was so out in left field, out in the corner... near the upside down bottle.

I dislike anything with Janice, but I think this episode was very good with her. Actually, any episode with Janice that does not involve a strap on is not so bad relatively.

A slow Soprano episode is still light years ahead of almost anything on network TV now.

My favorite line of the night came from Tony B:

"Speaking of scary shit, was that you in the bathroom this morning?"

Hallelujah!

When a show like this comes along, I don't sit back and evaluate the merit of each individual episode like I would with a lesser but still good tv drama, like NYPD Blue for example.

I am too absorbed into the whole ethos of the show and it's characters, like being a member of a family, to worry about the focus of a particular episode - or whether it has enough of this or too much of that. I'm also interested in the psychological element of the show, and whether the characters can actually grow and recognize things within themselves - it makes it so much more interesting than just watching them doing things.

Getting back to NYPD Blue, that is the reason I've watched the show all these years, to see the development of Sipowicz. Now that he really doesn't have much more to grow, it has lost a lot of it's appeal, no matter what crime they are investigating.

Tony B mentioned it to Chris that Tony S eats to make himself feel better. I think they were just showing that he's right.

Was the old guy's daughter the most unnecessary character in the history of television? All she did was serve to make all the scenes rife with uncomfortable silence.

Next week we'll meet Finn's new building super and his struggles with stuttering.

Sheesh!

BTW, if you want to make a family drama, make the guy a f* *king plumber. So when his son and wife are having a heart-to-heart, at least I wont be squirming in my seat thinking "I wonder if Tony's cleaning a really tough clog now!"

If Tony S was a plumber, then when he was standing next to wife Carmella at the empty pool, I would not be thinking "is he going to push her in?" His relatives would go upstate to dig up some old pipes and dispose of them?

Okay, I'm going to further unpopular opinion, and say I actually like the Carmella slow-mo shot. EEEK.

I guess it had to do with Mike Figgis directing, and it seemed like something he wanted to do, a few other Figgis touches:

The videotape of Janice at the soccer game, many angles, for a home video shot.

The MOS shot of Christopher driving back to NYC with the red eyes and the tear.

The ending where we just see Tony walking down the street, and the credits come up before the screen fades to black.

These just seem to be a little different then the normal Sopranos style, and I liked it.

I loved the Tony B. and Chris M. bonding session while bone and skull fragments were crushed!

I don't care how far down hill you people think it has gotten. I still look forward to Sundays, and enjoy myself quite a bit while watching this show!

anyone else dig the "homage" to goodfellas when christopher and tony b were digging up the grave? it was almost a shot for shot remake of the scene in goodfellas where deniro, pesci, and liotta re digging up billy batts (frank vincent).

bravo!

It's both. It seems YOU'RE the one who doesn't understand what this show is about.

Creator David Chase would disagree with you - he's clearly stated this is a show about a family who just happens to be in the mob.

I think Chase is intentionally making Tony less likeable this season - he was never crazy about the fact that so many fans idolized the guy so much. I suspect before this season is out, either Tony will get what's coming to him from someone - or he'll do something so horrible to someone else that his character will be beyond redemption.

Absolutely. They have made him look as slovenly as possible this season, no more nice suits and nice house. Hes always sweaty and surrounded by filth.

100% agree. Chase is a God by the way. I just never hear that phrase enough.
