I'm normally a big fan of wanton sex and violence on TV, but I just thought this episode was too over the top for my tastes. Bleh!

Again, not the best decision, but he certainly didn't go to the house alone.
It doesn't matter. You never, ever, ever stay in a situation where you lose control. He was alone, he lost control.

Any police officer w/ half a brain knows that.

Again, it doesn't matter. In real life, a situation like this would never happen.

Funny side note: I was listening to the commentary by Michael Chiklis and Benito Martinez (David Aceveda) on the Season 2 DVD. The series creator Shawn Ryan asks Martinez, "So, what was the biggest difference for you between Season One and Season Two?" And the exchange goes like this:

Martinez: "Well, I guess I'd say the biggest difference was that I was surprised to learn that the Vic Makey character is actually gay."
Chiklis: "Hey now, don't knock it until you try it."

Guess that'll learn him to say things like that...

Being a viewer of Oz, I wasn't too shocked - imagine the same scene, only with no couch blocking the shot and then spooge shooting out of Aceveda's nose - that's what Oz would have done.

I was grossed out by this episode.
Anybody think this may be THE SHIELD's "jump the shark" episode?

That was me, and I withdraw it after the last couple of weeks.

I assume that there will be a S4 of The Shield so this was the way to keep Aceveda in the squad instead of on the city council.
I don't think so. Vic needs a friend in high places if he is going to survive Wyms in charge. Making sure the pic doesn't surface but keeping it as blackmail material seems to me to set up a great dynamic for S4...

Am I the only one who actually wants Aceveda to get a seat on the city council? I think it would add another dimension to the show. Also, being on the city council, Aceveda would have more to worry about than just the Strike Team which would lead to futher tension between Vic and Claudette which would be interesting.

Burrito, popsicle, corn dog...ecliar. All permenantly off the Aceveda menu.

Mackey will enjoy having this on him, but he'll apply it moderately, only bringing it out when he reeally needs it.

Suffice it to say that the Reed Diamond character's murder will never be looked at any closer is Aceveda has anything to say about it.

And I agree w/ SiberianLlama: I want to see him move up. He'll just get himself into stickier and stickier predicaments. Vic can be going over Claudette's head to pull the occasional favor from his special buddy Dave.

JumpTheShark my ass...this episode makes it the best show not on HBO and the 2nd best on TV, moving it a smidge closer to The Wire.

I'm a week behind on this season, but WOW. Powerfully nauseating to say the least, I felt myself involuntarily gagging along with Aceveda at the end of that episode.

Damn.

Re: the shield 4/6/04 "Mum"

So...

I'm a little late to the Shield party. I had always heard it was good, but just picked up the first season when I found it for $10 a few weeks ago. This show is amazing. Since then I've gone straight through the 1st and 2nd seasons and I'm now on season 3.

Last night I watched this episode. "Mum". WOW. No way I would have thought this show could have been on primetime TV, but this episode was disturbing in a way no TV show has ever effected me. I had trouble sleeping right afterwards. It was that bad/good. Can't wait to see what happens next. And yes, I go back and read the threads from each episode to see what people were saying when the shows first aired.

Great program.
