The Officially Unofficial Daily Show Thread

I figured I would start an ongoing Daily Show thread since starting a thread every time there is a new episode would be a bit much, but a lot of times I will see something on the show that I wonder what other people thought about (the F word) but don't have a thread to place it in so I end up starting a thread about one word.

I thought the episode tonight was very funny, and I thought Jerry was a really good guest. It's just a little weird that a guest would come on to promote a commercial. I guess he must be doing the rounds though because I heard him the other day on a sports radio show talking sports and defending the Mets.

The bit about the juror was also funny. "The media isn't on trial here, the jury is."

So what did everyone else think? Any hits, any misses?

I loved Jerry's AmEx Superman webmercials--hilarious!

Man, though, Jon needs to get some serious interview classes. LOL He never knows what to say.

I thought Stephen Colbert was the best part of last night's episode. Jon, on the other hand, looked pretty weak with the Seinfeld interview. Still, I'd rather watch a weak episode of The Daily Show than any other late night talk show.

Stewart is a lot better with the political interviews, that's for sure.

I think maybe it was because John actually seemed starstruck at having Jerry on his show. I usually don't think he does such a bad job with other celebrities, but I guess he was just intimidated by Jerry's status.

The Sienfeld segment was dull. Though I loved it when Stewart said "crazy old kunt".

The Bruce Willis "surprise" was kind of fun - he almost lost it when Stewart was ragging on Cybil Shepard.

I'm a day behind.

Don't care for the new guy at all. Is he replacing somebody? I don't remember seeing Samantha Bee in quite a while.

I don't think he's really replacing anyone. This IS an election year, so Corddry, Helms, Bee and perhaps even Carrell will return.

Most of these "correspondents" are stand-ups and comedy writers, so they can't devote 100% of their time to TDS.

I remember there was a hot brunette girl who did a few pieces for the show. One was about a hotel building near a swamp and forcing the animals out of it, or something. What ever happened to her?

I'm guessing the new guy doesn't fall into either category?

Sadly, she fell into said swamp, never to return.

Well, this new guy isn't so great. But I think there is some resistance everytime I new correspondent comes to the show. I was a little apprehensive towards Corddry and Helms when they first showed up and now I think they are some of the funniest people around. As for Samantha Bee, well...she's getting there .

I think it takes some time to fall into the Daily Show mold. EVERYTIME there have been new people on it, I'd always think to myself "There's no way they can replace this person" When A. Whitney Brown and Brian Unger left, I thought things would be horrible, and they were for a short time, but then the new correspondents found their groove, and things picked up.

That guy really got angry when he said that. I thought he actually was going to break the bottle over his head.

I love this show. I think it's at its best when Stewart gets an intelligent Republican on there, because the back-and-forth between them is always strong. Jon's really good at toning down the rhetoric during the interviews, and he often gets into a good dialogue that's worth listening to.

I thought the headlines on Monday with both Clinton and Cheney were absolutely hilarious. What did everyone else think of the Cheney stuff? Short memory?

Generally, this is what happens, but he had on the right-wing guy who wrote the book The Connection and Jon kind of went at the guy pretty hard. As you stated, he tried to be civil and restrained, so he pulled back from really tearing into the guy UNTIL the author said something about Jon not getting his facts from good enough sources or something like that and Stewart came back with, "And you're one to talk about really good sources," or something like that, while holding up the guy's book. It was really awkward and they went to commercial. I was surprised the guy was still there, but you could see Jon leaning over to him as they went to commercial, almost assuredly telling the guy "Sorry for that one."

This guy has been on ALL the news channels, usually with no one to counter him OR someone not very well spoken, like alan colmes, and the author had his way with pushing his facts in his book. Stewart totally ripped the guy into pieces in seconds, which kind of just happened unexpectedly.

He even had a few more jabs after the 2nd segment with the guy when they came back and he was already gone. I think Stewart really didn't like the weasel too much. It was great tv, though.
