I don't think the original poster was referring to importing, in general, as being a pain.

I know that for me, owner of only a region 1 DVD player, it would be a "pain" to have to import a region 2 DVD and buy a region 2 player or whatever in order to watch it.
That's exactly it. I already have 3 DVD players, and buying another one just isn't worth it to me.

That's obviously true. It's been a long time since I've watched any movie on TCM that was rated by the MPAA. (Actually for the very reason that I don't like to see movies edited for content, so I wish I had known!) I imagine their target audience (i.e., movie buffs) are more offended at the notion of seeing the film edited and sanitized,* so I think it's great they are doing this for a channel included in my basic cable service.

*=(unless that movie buff is the famous film critic, Cameron Spencer Osborne)
What are you talking about? TCM doesn't show movies. They show cigarette ads disguised as movies.

I watched "Mr Deeds Goes to Town" on Sunday on TCM - I didn't even realize that the Adam Sandler version was a remake!

Needless to say, the 1936 version was awesome and I enjoyed every commercial-free minute of it. I especially liked the part with the farmers that was taken out of the Sandler version.

By the way, I heard "The Sting" is being shown on TCM in widescreen, uncut, and without commercials.

Well I didn't want to be guilty of passing any misinformation, and I was also curious if my mind was starting to fail me at an early age, so I went home and dusted off my VHS copy of "Day of the Jackal."

I recorded it off TCM, but couldn't say when exactly except it was most certainly after the Bruce Willis remake was released in 1997. My guess is I recorded this around 2000, but I can't guarantee that. I can guarantee it's TCM, because their promos appear before the movie, Robert Osborne introduces it, and its presented in its OAR.

So around 1:40 into the movie, Ed Fox (the Jackal) is in bed with some lady he's seduced. The scene is very grainy so its obvious that the picture has been zoomed in to avoid showing female breasts. Once she rolls over onto her side, the "zoom effect" disappears, and the picture immediately reverts back to normal.

Just in case anyone is still skeptical, Ed Fox then gets out of bed, and a freakin' BLACK BOX appears where his lower torso would be, and follows him as he walks out of the bedroom! Since everyone was very emphatic TCM now shows it's films uncut, I will not dispute that - and I'm very interested in seeing "The Sting" complete and in widescreen, so my thanks to the original poster.

But the way I see it, there are now two possibilities: Either first-time viewers saw Ed Fox with a black box strategically placed over him when this movie played in the theaters, or sometime around four to six years ago TCM had a different policy.

(Rennervision bows head and offers small prayer of gratitude that he has not gone completely crazy.)

Ok so let me get this straight: TMC (Turner Classic Movies) shows all of their movies in OAR, but they are edited for content? And AMC is commercial free, right? So what's the story with The Movie Channel (TMC)?

So what happened with this? What was the format, etc. of the movie on TCM?
