I don't think we need to spoilerize speculation. I don't think Palmer will have his strings pulled. If there's one policy he's always followed it's that the United States does not negotitate with terrorists.
There were so many things that just clicked in this episode. To me the plot just unraveled with such a precise spiral of doom, I was grinning like an idiot throughout the whole episode. It hasn't been like this in a looong time.
Well, five weeks to be exact.

Great episode, and definitely worth the wait. Looks like the writers used this season to its full potential, knowing full well that they would get all 24 episodes. It built up slowly, and is now kicking into high gear.

nothing better than thousands of people dying in a TV show. 24 has got to be in the top of shows that have high body counts each year.

Awesome show. I was actually yelling shoot him at the end.
As far as why some people are affected before others it is probably like most viruses. Contagon is a combination of amount of exposure and the body's immune system. Gael (sp?) showed signs very quickly because he had direct exposure into his face (straight shot into his insides through his mouth, nose and eyes)
Add to that the fact that everyone's immune system runs at different speeds (some people hardly ever get sick, others are constantly getting sick) and that accounts for why some people show symptoms before others.
I would think that exposure to open air would render the concentration to an insignificant concentration unless the virus was replicating itself very quickly in the host.

EXCELLENT episode.
Last night on Leno, Keifer Sutherland said, "We're more proud of the final seven episodes of this season than we've been of any episodes yet."
Something to look forward to!

And agreed about Michelle. She's become quite the little bad motor scooter lately. I like it.

Awesome episode. Since it hasn't been on in five weeks, I've almost forgotten how much I hate the feeling after 24 (you know, wanting to see the next hour right now). When I heard it wasn't going to be on for so long, I totally forgot about that feeling. Now, that it's finally back, I wish it was next Tuesday RIGHT NOW!!! Boy, these eight hours are gonna rock

I guess I am in the minority saying that was one of the worst episodes of the season. So bad, I fell asleep in the last 5 minutes. Maybe I will have to try to watch it again.

Sherry Palmer has to be one of the most evil characters on television (next to Sark but it's quite the contest). As much as I'm not loving the arc, I like the character so hopefully she'll find a way to slither back into the mix.

I didn't like this ep. Everything was laid out and no real surprises. Amador got loose. Amador got blown up (I was actually expecting a bullet to the head from the driver.) One guy HAS to leave and starts doing goofy stuff. I dont get why the first guy HAD to get home to his wife. To the extent that he's pulling fire alarms? The evil man trying to take over the US. blah blah.
The one thing I didn't see coming was Jack telling the president that he should do whatever the evil man says. This is the same Jack Bauer that flew a Nuke over the desert but now he says 'meet his demands'?
And no matter what you ask Jack to do, there's always 'not enough time'. Bring the prisoner back to CTU 'There's not enough time!', Lets interrogate Nina 'There's no time for that!', How about we stop and get gas 'There's no time! We'll have to get there on foot!'.
I think the hiatus has made me see a lot of the show's faults. And the fact that the Shield and the Sopranos came back while 24 was gone kinda dulls it's luster.
