What good movies?!?!?! I know maybe nobody will agree with me, but the 90s was the best decade of movies ever. Hell, if only for the reason that it was the first decade that the independent film industry was really able to grow.
1995 and 1999 alone are better than some decades imo:
95
Babe
Billy Madison (Sandler's best movie)
Bad Boys (I know a lot of people hate Bay, but I loved his first 2 films)
casino
crimson tide
dead man walking
die hard 3
flirt
georgia
heat
home for the holidays
kids
Leaving Las Vegas
Les Miserables
Nixon
Se7en
To Die For
Toy Story
12 Monkeys
Welcome to the Dollhouse
99
Fight Club (my favorite movie)
American Beauty
Being John Malkovich
The Insider
Boys Don't Cry
Magnolia
Run Lola Run
The Blair Witch Project
The Sixth Sense
The War Zone
Ghost Dog
Office Space
Twin Falls Idaho
Virgin Suicides
And of course both years had movies I didn't like that everybody else loved like Braveheart, The Usual Suspects, and The Matrix.

There were some great movies in the 90s, but i have to agree that nothing good musically (except MAYBE grunge if your really desperate) came out of that decade. For sure nothing after 95.

I agree. I was born in '82, but the 90s are definitely NOT my favorite decade. There have been very few things I have really loved that have came out new since about '95. I get much more enjoyment out of exploring older stuff (whether it be music, movies, books, etc.), because to me most are just flat-out better.
I don't judge a great movie by how many computer-generated effects it's filled with, and a lot of movies out these days are completely overwhelmed by special effects with very little interest (at least it seems) in decent acting, writing, cinematography, etc. It's just not as enjoyable for me when it's obvious all the action in a movie is done in front of a blue screen.
I don't want to act like I think "it's all been done", because I know there's still some fairly original stuff being done in today's culture, but why in the heck are there so many remakes out these days? Wait..excuse me, "re-envisionings". Bleh. If you're going to remake films, why not remake ones that sucked the first time? Ones that had a good concept, but were just poorly executed (maybe bad casting, bland script, etc.) And I also hate the way every time I hear a good hip-hop song these days, the first thing that comes to my mind is "I wonder what sample(s) they used."
But enough ranting....I don't hate the later 90s and current pop culture at all. Ok, not most of it. I just wonder how many albums and movies that came out in the last decade (since about '95 on) will really be considered classics 25 years from now. I know older movies may look dated in some aspects as time passes, but I hope that doesn't dissuade younger kids from exploring stuff from earlier decades. The creativity and originality in a lot of music and films of the 20th century are just not as evident to me in stuff of today. And it's not like I haven't watched a lot of recent movies. I just see very little I would call truly great.
I also wonder how many of the newer musical performers will be considered legends. Eminem, Jay-Z ....maybe....but I don't know of too many others who emerged in the last 10 years who would really earn that high of praise. Early 90s...Nirvana, Radiohead, and a few other truly great bands....but I'm talking since the mid-90s.
Oh well, bring on I Love the 90s. There is actually a lot to make fun of, although not a whole lot to really be nostalgic over (especially in the last 10 years). At least it should be funny if Hal, Mo, Michael Ian Black, and Donal Logue are some of the commentators. They're a million times better than the mostly unfunny D-listers E! got for their special.

While the 1st half of the 90s will be a little different, the latter years will be pretty dumb. A lot of the big TV shows from '97, '98, '99 are still on TV now. Friends, Frasier, ER, L&O, NYPD Blue, Simpsons, etc are still all on the air. So it's not exactly going to have the "Oh my god! I remember that" effect. And the music will be the same - the late 90s were dominated by Hip Hop and Puffy Combs and J-Lo which are still putting out "hits" today.
The early 90s should have a lot Nirvana, Pearl Jam and all the other grunge bands, which will be mildly interesting. The only TV shows I can think of that would be featured are 90210, P of 5, Melrose, Saved by the Bell and they're still fresh enough in my memory that it'll pretty lame.
And the toy/gadget aspect for the whole decade will be pretty lame as well. What products came out in the 90s that'll be worth mentioning? Especially ones that are no longer in use or popular and "define" the era?

Troll dolls
Tickle Me Elmo
Magic Eye books
Pogs ("Remember ALF? He's back, in pog form!")
Pokemon (though still popular I guess)
Tamagotchi (aka virtual pets)
Furbys
Magic: The Gathering (the D&D of the 90s)
Power Rangers (Ninja Turtles of the 90s)
90s music was obviously great in the early part of the decade, then sort of sagged later on. But the 80s were basically the same way, with a lot of big albums being released in the early years, before succumbing to disposable pop later on.
But bands like Rage Against the Machine, Green Day, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot chili Peppers, and Radiohead all released great albums in the later part of the decade. And the middle portion had great stuff from Oasis, Beck, Nine inch Nails, Blur, Dave Matthews Band, and Live. Plus you just know they're gonna have plenty of one-hit wonder fodder.

I'm getting visions of the South Park episode where the kids found a guy who had been frozen since 1996 and had a hard time adjusting to life in 2000 or whenever the episode was aired.

I'm not saying there won't be anything to fill up an hour for each episode, but the material will be rather weak considering the purpose of the show. I could make a "Totally 2003" show, but it wouldn't be worth watching.

Well, to be fair, it doesn't say "1990s". Maybe they are just going back a bit further and covering the 1890s. It was a very exciting decade, you know.
