I have been reading about Voom ( www.voom.com ) on their website & over at the avs forums and finally decided to take the plunge. They have a special going right now were you can use the service for free until the end of Feb & you can get a 100% refund if not satisfied by March 31st. I decided to chance it since I am sick of paying $80 a month to my cable company for 3 HD channels (and still no damn ESPN-HD). Charter moves slow & I wasn't completely impressed with Dish or Direct.

Voom has approx 30 HD channels right now & should be getting ESPN-HD & HBO-HD soon (hopefully). My install isn't until 12-26. Guess i can stand two more weeks of my crummy cable.

So...anyone here have this or thinking of trying it?

Given the lack of responses to my original Voom post, I'd say that's a big 'no'.

The start-up cost to this service is just off the charts! If not for that, I'd certainly be much more interested in it.

Looks promising if you have HD capability. I may have to talk to my dad about getting this for their new cabin. Nothing like having a ton of HD channels when you have a 62" LCD HDTV and a 8' x 12' video screen.

What's the price for setup?

If you wouldn't be so lazy and go to the site, you'd see it's $799 but that includes professional installation.

Actually doesn't seem like a bad deal. For equipment anyway. Most HD receivers are still in the $500+ range, the dish, and a separate antenna (probably for locals), installation and 2 year service plan.

I actually looked for about 10 minutes on the site but never found it.

I actually got some info on it the mail, but since I don't have an HDTV I briefly scanned then chucked it. 750 seemed like a lot to me anyway.

Unlimited what? I haven't seen that price or anything about "unlimited" anywhere.

click on See It, then Packages. In the middle of the screen it says Voom Unlimited. That's where it gives the price.

Theres a new Voom offer of $0 upfront and free installation. I'm seriously considering trying VOOM. Does anyone know where I can find reviews of it? Thanks.

This month's Sound and Vision had a 2-3 page spread on it. Seemed pretty positive overall. However the Hi-Def movie channels are all shown at 1.78:1 even if they are originally 2.35:1. Voom said they were reviewing their policy, but that doesn't say much to me. However it does look like a pretty good service from the review although some of the HD channels I would never watch. You have to read the article to understand.
