Wow! What an ending. I didn't see that coming.

Another amazing episode, that show just blows me away.

BDB 02-24-04 09:16 PM

I love how they can have episodes like that.

now the question ...

Spoiler:

Was he ever in the episode??

Did he die during the tests?

mrpayroll 02-24-04 09:20 PM

I'd have to watch the episode again, because there are so many hidden meanings contained in it.

Damn them for making me think. Here I thought it was just another funny episode and then they drop the bomb at the end. I was tearing up a bit.

Spoiler:

JD talked about the old guy & Dr. Cox said that the older person was not going to go into cardiac arrest during the next 30 minutes, so JD could look after Cox's brother-in-law.

When JD came out later & said "he went into cardiac arrest 20 minutes after you left". JD NEVER said WHO died. If you note a little bit later, you see the old guy in a bed & he appear to be breathing. I remember thinking that something was weird there, but I disregarded it.

The brother-in-law was definitely there, but he never interacted with anyone besides Dr. Cox after JD told Dr. Cox about the death. And this explains why JD was so somber about the death.

Damnit! I was baby-sitting my niece and I completely forgot this was on - I caught the last couple of minutes at the cemetary. That was sad enough as it is - how was the rest of the ep?

Could one of you fine people give me a nice recap, please? Thanks.

mrpayroll 02-24-04 09:59 PM

Those are some damn good observations Chopper. Now it is clearer to me! :)

Great Episode!

"I'm the King of Gay Chicken!"

CaptainMarvel 02-24-04 11:41 PM

I didn't catch it the first time around, but it makes perfect sense re-watching it.

Spoiler:
Nobody except Cox spoke with the brother after that scene where J.D. tells Cox the bad news. Elliot came the closest when the brother was making gestures behind her, but she was just really turning around b/c Cox was looking behind her.

What a powerful episode...

JasonF 02-24-04 11:55 PM

I caught it the first time, as soon as JD told Dr. Cox. I guess I'm too smart for my own good.

This episode made me very sad. :(

the big train 02-25-04 02:03 AM

I thought it was a nice touch that right after Dr. Cox was wondering why Ben isn't dressed up, Ben says: "Glad you made it." Shortly thereafter, everything gets turned on its head.

movieking 02-25-04 04:49 AM

I kinda thought that it was him that died when JD told Dr Cox as well, and had it in the back of my mind throughout the episode, but when they dropped the bomb at the end, it still shocked me.

Great episode. Gay Chicken had me laughing all night long. Too bad that Fraser won't be returning. He was a great character.

Hard to criticize the episode. While there was barely any Dr Jan Itor, and Kelso showed some softness, it was a phenomenal episode that ranks up there with the best of the season.

shadowhawk2020 02-25-04 05:16 AM

I liked when Brenden Fraiser was playing puppet and was pulled off of the counter. "Nice commitment"

This is the same way I felt too ... it must have been JD's tear streaked face, as we've never really seen him cry for a patient before.

Nice catch chopper. I was scratching my head. Good call with the

I love how the writers/actors can float between all out comedy to drama. That is the reason why M*A*S*H had such great legs.

Draven 02-25-04 10:16 AM

Wow. Just...wow.

I can't even explain how much I love this show. And I think "gay chicken" is my favorite thing to ever come out of it.

That being said, I was comPLETELY fooled by this episode. I just never saw it coming, even though there were a lot of "off" things that gave hints (JDs lack of defense of himself, the fact that no one responded to Brendan Fraser after the code, Cox pushing himself that hard, Kelso being nice, etc.)

Anyway, it was great.

Spoiler:
was saying she must have missed something about who the old man was by the way Cox was taking it. I too thought he was going overboard for an oldman he had barely looked at his chart. Then started seeing the other guests sitting down and realized the twist.

Great episode.

"I'll check the dumpster"

"We're not looking for dead Carla"

maxpower 02-25-04 11:29 AM

ok..my damn vcr(stone age appliance for analog recording onto extractable media) locked on the old tape.
So I missed it entirely.

Was this a new episode. I had not seen any promos for brendan fraser...and swear when he was last on ..he did not make it then...but not sure.

Tom Banjo 02-25-04 12:02 PM

What a PHENOMENAL episode. Best of the season IMO.

silentbob007 02-25-04 12:23 PM

It was interesting that Dr. Kelso attended the funeral ... was he referring to Ben (as well as his wife) about missing annoying things when they aren't around any more?

Brand new, and he made it last time.

The inference was that the old man died because JD had too much work, which he told Dr Cox, who didn't really care. Cox said that the old guy would live another 30 minutes until he got back, so when JD said that he coded 20 minutes ago, it made us think it was the old guy. We were lead to think that Cox blamed himself for the death, and that was why he was working himself so hard.

After watching the episode again, and knowing the outcome, there are quite a few clues. For example, "I don't attend parties where the guest of honor has no idea what is going on/what are you doing here?/Jordan called she wants to make sure this afternoon (Ben replies: the thing, put us down for Ben plus one)/it's been an emotional couple of days/how come you don't have to get all dressed up/etc"
