My ReplayTV totally hosed me by not recording AI, but from what I've read, it was a trainwreck, with Lisa being the bright spot in an otherwise dismal show, and Matthew made some questionable comments in response to Simon's critique.

Good god this episode made me want to fist myself.

I would have chosen SIX people from last week's episode over anybody in this group.

Wow. Just wow. I can't believe Mel Gibson is making a movie about that one guy.

James Lipton: We begin each class with the questionairre that was invented by Bernard Pivot. AllPurpose, what's your favorite word?
AP: "24"
JL: What's your least favorite word?
AP: Roman.
JL: In this whole wide world, of everything that's in it, what turns you on?
AP: "24"
JL: What turns you off?
AP: Roman
JL: What sound or noise do you love?
AP: "And now, a new '24"' is next."
JL: What sound or noise do you hate?
AP: Take a guess..it begins with "R" and ends with "n."
JL: What's your favorite curse word?
AP: [bleep], as in, how the [bleep] did those two tone deaf [bleep]ers ever make it this [bleep]in' far? My [bleep]in' ear drums are bleeding.
JL: What profession, other than yours, would you like to attempt?
AP: After tonight, a teaching job at Galludet.
JL: What profession would you not like to participate in?
AP: Producer for a [bleep]in' Roman Bros. record.
JL: Finally, if heaven exists, what would you like to hear god say when you arrive at the pearly gates?
AP: "Don't worry. I muted those [bleep]in' brothers before I let them up here."

Please pardon my feeble attempt at humor.

BTW, hate to say it, given how much I detest the guy, but Matt blew everyone else away tonight. That's not to say that he was even half as good as the worst from last week (the "Walkin' in Memphis" guy).

The siren songs of tonight's contestants has made me even more afraid of the water than "Jaws" did.

I'd be pissed to no end if I was in that first group after seeing this group of hacks.

Again, the producers or whoever stacked the first grouping way too much seeing the performances tonight.

everyone tonight was mediocre to ehh whatever. I thought the Hawaiian chick was nervous and sang out of tune in the beginning. None of these people should be advancing over many of the people last week (I really rooted for the Imagine girl with the strong voice). Anyway. just to show that the producers went for personalities rather than balancing talent in grouping the people.

Wow. I'd have to say that Lisa (the redhead) is the only one I'd want to see go on, and I'm not really all that thrilled about her.

After last week's show I was thinking that the contest is really a lot stronger than it was last year. Oops, so much for that.

It would be pretty funny if 4 more people from week 1 made it to the finals as wildcards, though.

All Purpose Nothing your post was hysterical

Simon was right (as usual) when he said this was the worst semi final group ever. Everybody sounded weak vocally especially that Hawaiin girl. She has a nice look buy man oh man she has no range!.Whomever put these 8 together should get another job

I think the problem is they let too many people go through who obviously CAN'T sing just to spread the show out as much as possible..

The should just pick the 10 best once they get to Hollywood and go from there.

Where is the next Freddie Mercury, Darryl Hall, Steve Perry, Marvin Gaye, Karen Carpenter, Ann Wlison (from Heart), Annie Lennox etc..People who can really sing their asses off!!??.

Some of these people made Celine Dion bearable....almost

So ... would Scooter Girl have advanced if she were in Group 2?

It does make you wonder if there isn't any thinking to how the producers put together each group of 8 contestants. How hard would it be to identify the top 12 out of 32 and then split the top 12 into 4 groups of 3 and then just plop the rest of the chaff into the groupings?

I'm not sure it was the producers fault this group was so weak. Even the judges had commented on how disappointed they were in several of the individuals who had done so much better in the past auditions. I think they probably included people they *thought* would do great but for whatever reason, the different format, the pressure, etc. most of them just happened to fall flat on their faces.

I'm sure the producers wouldn't have wished for such a weak showing-- I think it hurts people's interest in the show. I wonder if as many people will tune in tonight to see who made it through or if there will be a marked decrease int he number of phone-in votes from last night.

Before the show aired, I look at Group 2 and couldn't really identify any sure bets, while I already have a few in group 3 and 4 that I am looking forward to. I wonder if any from Group 2 could have made the first American Idol show.

They won't be picking any wildcards from this bunch. I'd have to agree, it's hard to pick two to go forward, or even one.

Anyone from this group probably won't make it very far when they get down to 32.

So I'm thinking tonight's Top 3 will be Lisa, Camille, and Marisa Joy unless the teeny-bopper factor decides to vote for Noel (who is the "cuter" of the two brothers.)

Unless of course there is a big outpouring of votes from the lesbian community for Brianna.

Heres my theory...

Matt is such an imposing, larger than life figure who is so outgoing and confident, that when he went first and got mixed reviews from the judges, the other performers were psyched out and retreated into thier shells.
It was obvious from the next 3 that they were totally off thier game...the mood in the waiting room was HORRIBLE.

I'd prefer it if they just changed the rules, not allow ANYONE from this week to the finals, and bring back 3 or 4 of last week's non-winners to compete for this week's 2 spots.

Last night was terrible!

I remember last year ther was also a lop-sided group. I think Reuben, Kimberly, and Clay were all in the same group. Clay did not make it, but ended up as America's Choice wild-card pick.

If I remember correctly, the group after that was pretty weak, and I recall thinking that Clay would have certianly made it in if he had been in that group instead.

yes, but at the same time I don't think there was a really WEAK WEAK group last year like last night.

I just can't imagine two of the people from last night going on the "American Idol" tour later in the summer!?

I called and got 8 votes in for Jesus and 6 in for Noel. I want them to win since they are the worst. One time i accidentally dialed 1-800 instead of 1-866 and an old lady answered the phone ("Hello, sonny, thank you for calling the 'Over 60' magazine subscription line...")

I'll got out on a limb and say Camile will be do very well in this competetion. I expect her to be in the final mix of people at the end of the season, she has a lot of potential.

Camile's voice needs to get a lot stronger if she hopes to get any farther. She will be lucky to make it past tonight.

Well, much like last week, I feel the best two singers went home (Lisa and Marisa). Camile's voice just sounds way too strained to me. All I can say about Matt is, he must have a lot of friends.

And America has spoken: It's going to be Camile and Matthew going on to the top 12. Lisa came in 3rd. Matthew sounded much better at the end of the show, he was more relaxed after he won.

I am really looking forward to next week for one reason: John Peter Lewis. My favorite of anyone so far. Hopefully that kid sings his ass off.
