well, they did schedule the show to end at 11:30. they should have cut some of the commercials to add a few more awards to be announced on air.

I was pleasantly surprised by the show. The perfomances were pretty solid.

I do agree they need to give out more awards on air though.

My other gripe would be that there's no need for anyone to perform twice, even as part of something else. No need to see Outkast, Beyonce, etc. on stage more than once.

I can see something like Justin Timberlake as he was nominated by himself and for his work with the Black Eyed Peas thus he had to perform on both. But the other stuff just makes the show a little redundant.

Still, it was the best music award show I've seen in some time.

Agreed but did Outkast perform twice? Andre and Big Boi performed separatly because it's two different albums. I fast forwarded through most of the show so I might have missed it.

Outkast has the top two singles for about the least month and a half or so. So how the hell could you NOT let them perform both, especially since they're on two seperate albums?

The Grammy's sure was boring!

I also thought they were the best grammys in a few years; I could get into most of the performances.

I especially liked the Foo Fighters and the funk bit. I can never seem to tolerate the white stripes. Yeah, Jack's passionate, but all it seems to sound like is noise and overdriven blues scales...

And I think Dre should have backed up his anti-bandwagon statements by performing something else from the CD; maybe his next single? If he did "Take of Your Cool" with norah jones, that would've been awesome.

Anyone know what Will Champion (coldplay drummer) said when he got up on stage? Something about coming for three years and getting the wrong seat or something?

He made a joke about how they have been to the Grammys several years in a row and they are still mistaken as "Seat Fillers".

I agree, 1000% better than the 1/2 time half at the SuperBowl.

Could you imagine what the grammys would have been like if MTV would have produced it?

OK that's what I thought. Two albums, two performances plus Big Boi was backed by Earth, Wind & Fire - how can you not love that.

2. Prince has ALWAYS been about eye candy so having a pretty girl shaking her thng is nothing new.

3. I'm not saying she'll outlast Prince....I'm just saying she'll be remembered in HER genre which is POP/R&B/. Prince will be remembered in his.

Isn't it a little too soon for that, especially since she has only had one solo record?

Note making any predictions for Beyonce (although personally I think she's crap) but Prince's legacy extends far beyond his "genre." I'm not a Prince maniac but I can see that he's in a rare category with the greatest and most influential musicians of popular music. Young listeners who only see him as a throwback don't know but he's way beyond a genre-specific oldie artist.

You may not like it but she's already established herself in DESTINY'S CHILD. They've been around for some time now. You may not remember the other "children", but one does remember Beyonce.

Again, YOU might think she's crap...and frankly I've never bought any of her stuff...but she's not just flash in the pan.

I'm certainly NOT sayng she has more of legacy than Prince. I'm not that high. But right now her star is certainly flying higher than his. Prince has been lackluster since the 90's. Even my hardcore Prince freaks friends admit that. I doubt he's going to see a major comeback.


But anything's possible....

Question: Since the BRIT awards put out not only CD compilations of nominees, but also a DVD compilation of nominees' vdeos, can we expect the Grammy people to do the same?

Richard Marx couldn't get a video played these days if his life depended on it, and that's a shame. I barely hear his new stuff on AC radio. At least he wisely also produces and writes for other artists, and I was happy to see him win. He also wins for longest post-win smooch, with his wife Cynthia Rhodes (the hot blonde from Dirty Dancing and other 80s dance films).

Robert Randolph and his band are amazing! Thanks to the Grammys for letting a lot of people see them perform for the first time.

Didn't George Clinton just get arrested a few months ago for coke possession? He looked pretty bloated and stoned to me. But, since there were about 5,000 other people up there singing with him, they pretty much drowned him out. I respect the guy's legacy, but damn is he looking rough. I saw him being interviewed recently and he could barely string a coherent sentence together.

I actually felt sorry for Celine during the sound screw-up. At least she held it together and gave a beautiful performance. I'm sure singing "Dance with My Father" was poignant for her since her father passed away a few months back.

50 Cent is a sore loser. But, I'm sure he had people telling him for the last few months he was a shoo-in to win, so I guess he had a right to be a little miffed.

All hail the 45 year old icons in attendance. Madonna and Prince looked great. Wish I could say the same about their partner in 80s pop domination. I still love and support ya, MJ.

I'm a big Dave Matthews fan, but he sounded off-key during the Beatles tribute. Sting actually outsang him. Pharrell looked bored and shouldn't have been included since he didn't look like he wanted to be up there. It was nice to see Vince Gill's guitar work get some notice. Speaking of great guitar playing....

I think what made this Grammys better than most of the recent ones was the abundance of multi-artist tributes and duets. It wasn't just one singer/band after another singing the nominated hit and then winning an award immediately afterward The show was actually energetic and fun (except for a few like Snooze McLachlan). I also think not having an official host was a good idea. It weeded out a lot of crappy and awkward jokes. There were still a few though, but there have to be some or it's just not an awards show. I like how deadpanned John Mayer was when reading his lines about his short-lived duo with Matthew Perry. It was funnier than the actual joke.

The red-haired guy in Evanescence looks like Harry Knowles from Ain't It Cool News .

Let's hope the Oscars will be this entertaining. I doubt it. Maybe MTV will take note and make the VMAs better this year. I've been pretty let down with them in the last few years (and with MTV in general).

I missed what 50 cent did. He lost in his category and got on stage but I didn't see him do anything other than make some face in the camera.
