I thought the episode was hysterical. It was obvious that Ross kissed Monica, but it was still so disgustinly funny. I was only four in 1987, so I don't know how realistic they portrayed it, but I definitely felt the 80's vibe.

So in ten seasons...they have done 5 or so flashback episodes...
Hmmmm....
and that's with me probably counting the one that could have been as one.

The One That Could've Been isn't even a flashback ep IMO. Off the top of my head:

The One with the Prom Video (does this even count?)
The One with All The Thanksgivings
The One with the Flashback
Last night's ep.

So that's 4. In 10 seasons, with 24 or so eps per, that's over 200 episodes. 4 episodes is "tired"?

Their 80s timeline is all screwed up. Ross & Chandler were supposed to be class of 1991 (and why is the class of 1991 having a reunion in 2004? SHouldn't they wait until 2006?), but by the time the show starts in 2004, Ross already has a PhD and a job at the museum. Just barely possible, but possible. What's not possible, though, if Ross and Chandler were in the class of 1991, is for Ross to have been with Carol for eight years (which he was), for them to have divorced in 1994 (which they did), and for Ross to have started dating her in college (which he did).

On the other hand, Rachel turned 30 in 2000, so for her to be a senior in high school while Ross is still in college, you can't move Ross and Chandler too much earlier than class of 1991.

Basically, the timeline on the flashbacks is all f^%*ed up.

My favortie line of the night was Joey's "Yeah, and who even keeps a ghost in their refrigerator?"

I agree. The first "flashback" episode with the prom video was classic. Very funny, and it fit. Unfortunately, they've beaten the premise into the ground, and ignored history to boot. Only now it's been revealed that Chandler and Rachel made out?

Best part of the episode was when Joey chose the category "Jack & Jill went up the hill", thinking it was about nursery rhymes, and it was really about Congress.

This was a great episdoe of FRIENDS. It's been a while since I've actually laughed while watching an episode. The ending was priceless.

For some reason, I didn't find Penguin funny at all. In fact, it was totally disgusting.

Fat Monica dancing's always funny though.

Not to mention Ross wearing a Members Only jacket. And "Funky Town" being played (!?) That was the 70's. Unless it was just an "oldies" tune being played at this party. Just seemed like an odd choice. Like Jason, I remember the 80's quite vividly. Year by year.

Pretty funny show. For the first time this season, Joey wasn't the funniest part of the show. The flashback thing might be a bit iffy, as the writers were clearly going for the obvious laughs... but you know what, it worked. Don't really care about the timeline though... no big deal.

Hint: It's made with eggs.

I watched it again last night with my wife. A couple of things that might explain the timeline discrepencies.

First, it wasn't a class reunion. They specifically said alumni meeting, which is quite different. If it was a class reunion don't you think they would have taken dates? (well, Ross, since Monica was busy) Not to mention it probably would have had quite a different storyline. The overused but familiar "having to impress people we went to school with, with lies" plotline.

Second, Chandler mentioned that him and Ross were freshmen when Monica & Rachel (she said they were seniors) visited. So only a year apart between her and Ross.

Now as far as the 8 years with Carol, they could have met/married in early 87. We all know how fast Ross moves. That would put them at 8 years when they divorce in 94. Right? That timeline is a tad screwy though.

And as far as the clothes, they were trying to be in a band. Bands often imitate/cover artist they love. So they were a fan of early 80's music and style and wanted to keep it alive in their band. Was everyone else dressed like them? I can't remember.

That's a bit of a stretch, wouldn't you say? I don't recall if everyone else was dressed like them. But how do you explain the music they were playing during the party? Like I said before, sure, they could have been playing records a few years old. I just think they goofed up overall on the timeline. No big deal of course. But those of us who know that decade well, picked up on this immediately.

Why is everyone so caught up why how accurate their hair, clothes, and music being played was. Who cares. It's a sitcom. I'm sure they went overboard for the humor factor and guess what. It was! Just take it for what it is and leave it alone.

Because it was a rather glaring error. Who cares? Obviously the people who commented on it. Myself included. Once again, I'll point out that this is a discussion group. If I want to talk about this, I will.
