Battlestar Galactica a "go"??
Though the Sci Fi Channel has given no official word, comments from actors involved with the production indicate that former Trek scribe Ron Moore's Battlestar Galactica will become a television series later this year.
Cinescape reported that actor Aaron Douglas posted on a bulletin board that Sci Fi had ordered 13 episodes of the new series, all of which would feature his character, Chief Petty Officer Tyrol.
Douglas added that he learned on the afternoon of January 30, with only minutes left on the option on his contract for the series, that the show would move ahead. He also said that he had spoken to Grace Park, who plays Boomer, and learned that her contract had been picked up as well.
Meanwhile SyFy Portal reported on a similar comment by Jamie Bamber, who plays Apollo.
"As far as I know, they still have not decided when they will shoot, or even how many episodes other than a minimum of six," Bamber said. "That all has to be decided next week."
Until the Sci Fi Channel makes an official announcement, any news forthcoming about the show's future must be considered tentative. There is no schedule in place yet for series production or broadcast.

Cool
Assuming Sci-Fi treats it better than just about every other series they've ever produced.
Fat chance.

I heard a month or two ago that Ron was leaving Carnivale to develop this as a show/pilot. I was disappointed as I really like Carnivale and his writing and I could get through more than 45 minutes of BG. I just didn't like it.

They're going to give this travesty a show but won't resurrect Farscape? Sad.

I liked the mini.
Unfortunately, now that SG-1 has jumped the shark, I don’t hold much hope for the future of series SF.
Too many are trying to make “scifi for the masses,” and this channel has already stated that as their intent.

I'd rather see a once-per-year mini series than a weekly series...Sci-Fi has already proven that they can't support long-term weekly series. If this goes to series, they'll have no budget to work with. Take the budget for 13 episodes and make a 4-hour telefilm!

I agree that this should be something that is done about once a year. This stuff is more tolerable in small doses.

It's official at last: the Sci-Fi Channel will produce 13 episodes of former Star Trek producer Ron Moore's reconceptualized Battlestar Galactica, following a successful miniseries last December.
Sci Fi Wire, the Sci Fi Channel's news service, made the announcement this morning, stating that the network has ordered 13 one-hour installments featuring cast members Edward James Olmos (Adama), Mary McDonnell (Laura Roslin), Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck) and Tricia Helfer (Number Six) among others.
Moore will write scripts and put together the staff for the series. In a brief interview with Sci Fi Wire, he promised to try to maintain the standards of the miniseries:
I think one of the hallmarks of the series will be that, it's always going to be a tense situation. These people are always going to be one step away from disaster. Which doesn't mean that the Cylons will be attacking them every week. But I think the nature of their situation and the reality of what they're facing out there alone, with most of them left with the clothes on their back and whatever food and supplies they happen to have on those ships when the events of the pilot occur is only, God, the beginning.
Moore, who will serve as executive producer of the series, also said that he would like to find roles for some of the actors from the original Battlestar Galactica.
"I'm probably going to approach a couple of the actors, if not all of them, at some point, and talk to them about that possibility, because I think that would be kind of cool and fun," he said. "I think it would be interesting to find things for them in the new series. And not just, like, a walk-on."
Original Galactica series star Richard Hatch, a fan favorite at conventions, spent several years trying to spearhead a revival before Sci Fi picked up Moore's revision.

Hmmmm... I have a problem with what Ron Moore said about maintaining the same standards as with the miniseries can we all say high price tag per episode? and knowing Sci-Fi they tend to shy away from such things. Oh well this show will last one season anyway BTW having former cast members from the original show is an intriguing idea. I wonder if Richard Hatch will appear?

Fitting. These days Dirk is looking about the same as Fred Astaire when he played a similar role.

Wonder if he would have a thing or two to say about Starbuck's transformation...even though Starbuck still prefers women.
