There's part of me that still wishes that they seperated broadcast TV from cable TV, but let's not get into that again.

I really could care less who wins tonight, as long as Matt LeBlanc takes home a statue. He has been the only reason to watch Friends this season.

Just to add: Since there is James Gandolfini this year, I think William Peterson has a shot at it. But he's up against Michael Chiklis (The Shield), Anthony LaPaglia (Without a Trace), Martin Sheen (The West Wing),
and Kiefer Sutherland (24).

Red Dog 01-25-04 05:30 PM

I certainly hope Nip/Tuck does well. Best show of the year IMO.

B.A. 01-25-04 07:04 PM

Sweet! LaPaglia just won for W/out A Trace!!!

whotony 01-25-04 07:08 PM

why do they all have to thank thehollywood foriegn press.

cant they just say it once in the beginning?

and what is the HFP?

conscience 01-25-04 07:11 PM

Frances Conroy.

Yay! My fave on the show.

Finally some recognition.

Those damn Emmys.

Rico Diablo 01-25-04 07:13 PM

Can anyone please post an MP3 of that opening Outkast song? It was so horrible I MUST have it. Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks!

DGibFen 01-25-04 07:24 PM

Angels in America winning wasn't that big of a surprise, was it?

EDIT: The Office was. That was one of the best speeches I've seen (and the reactions from the audience were too funny)

Steelers Fan 01-25-04 07:31 PM

What the hell did Robin Williams just do ? Did anyone else see what he did on the way to commercial ?

Obey The D 01-25-04 07:31 PM

Wow! It only took 35 minutes for someone to bash Bush during their speech

nny 01-25-04 07:43 PM

Anyone else think Meryl Streep gave the worst performance of anybody in Angels in America? Was there any reason that she played the rabbi?

24 wins best drama!

meritocracy 01-25-04 08:07 PM

24? Sorry, but for best drama, you've got to be kidding me.

DGibFen 01-25-04 08:08 PM

Holy Crap! 24 Won! I didn't think it had a chance!

SuperJim88 01-25-04 08:28 PM

Did anybody else see Al Pacino?

Holy cow, Al Pacino looked horrible. He didn't shave, his only have couple hairs left........ He looks like a bad episode of grumpy old man.

Patman 01-25-04 08:36 PM

Best line in an acceptance speech so far:

"'Wrap it up' Bye!"

Personally, I'm surprised it took 35 mintues.

Meryl Streep. She said something like "We live in a country where the president thinks that the two biggest problems are two people in committed relationships (I assume something against Bush's statement about a marriage amendment) and steroids in high schools."

I can't remember it exactly.

Oh yeah, here's something that could stink:

BBC America's "The Office," which stars co-creator Ricky Gervais as an annoying boss at a British paper merchant, defeated "Arrested Development," "Monk," "Sex and the City" and "Will & Grace" for best comedy show. The critically lauded "The Office" is being developed into an American version.

At the end of her speech, Meryl Streep said she wanted to let everyone know that she doesn't think relationships between two people that love each other and steroids in sports are not our countries two biggest problems.

since when did Bush make those the "priorities" of his campaign?

She's referring to comments made in The State Of The Union speech.

and again, when did he ever say it was a priority? He just urged high school atheetes not to use steroids. I believe it was a short comment, not the focus of his speech.

Like I said, she was referring to comments. I never said it was a priority, I mearly answered your question. Now back on topic....

Theron enjoy it...the Oscar's next.

Patman 01-25-04 09:56 PM

Political commentary by actors rate a big fat "Yawn" from me.

I still can't believe Tim Robbins, of all people, abstained from making any comments whatsoever towards the Bush Admnistration, etc. Very surprising and welcome.

Priority? Of course, not, but one can wonder why he even mentioned them at all.

BDB 01-25-04 10:21 PM

The Office kicked ass, which is amazing for a show on bbc america

maybe because he's concerned about it? Not so much a fan of the gay marriage comments, but steroid use among HS athletes is on the rise. Maybe he's not a heartless bastard most make him out to be, and he's genuinely concerned.

Yep! I just saw that! Hehehe.

Shannon Nutt 01-26-04 04:47 AM

Okay, here's my reaction to the awards:

THE I WONDER IF NBC EVEN KNEW WHAT IT MEANT AWARD:
Goes to Robin Williams for his sign language of both male and female oral sex right before commercial break.

THE CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR AWARD:
To whomever was running the five second delay at the NBC switchboard - and managed to just miss blocking out Diane Keaton from yelling "$h*T" - allowing all of us at home to hear it!

THE SHE'S NOT A LUSH, REALLY AWARD:
To Richard Gere's wife, Carey Lowell, for going to take a big swig out of her wine glass, noticing she was on camera - and deciding to give a toast to the camera man and take a big swig anyway.

THE DOESN'T MY HAIR LOOK TERRIFIC AWARD:
To Al Pacino, whose hair and suit made him look like he had just awakened from a long winter's nap.

WOO HOO MOMENT #1:
"The Office" upsets "Sex in the City" and "Monk" for best comedy.

WOO HOO MOMENT #2:
"24" upsets "Six Feet Under" for best drama.

Daytripper 01-26-04 07:39 AM

The show was as painful as ever to watch. Starting off with that Outkast "parody" song at the beginning. A new low for embarrassing. Very glad to see Frances Conroy winning for "Six Feet Under". Ditto for Keaton for "Something's Gotta Give". It's gonna come down to her and Theron at the Oscars. And you just know Theron will take home the award. If she does, I hope someone has the hook ready. Man, she just wouldn't shut up. Other observations: How bizarre does Sharon Stone look these days. Is her hair white? Yellow? She hit the wall HARD. And she's crazier than ever. This is the only award show that allows her to present. Thank God. I lost count how many times they showed William Macy in the audience. Jennifer Aniston is not looking so good these days either. Is it the hair? Jim Carrey has the biggest ears I've ever seen. And for the first time, wasn't that funny presenting an award. Barbara Streisand *does* looks like David Brenner these days (as Howard Stern said). Al Pacino looks like he has for the past 10 years (bad), I don't know what everyone is talking about. And last, did Bill Murray look like he'd rather be anywhere else but there?

B.A. 01-26-04 07:58 AM

Al Pacino's rambling acceptance speech got old really fast. I know he's been around forever and he is an icon now, they still could have cued the music a little earlier. I'd rather hear someon like Charlize who was genuinely happy rather than another speech from Pacino. And she will win the Oscar, too, because she is young and was in a low-budget independent film w/ a "gutsy" role (ala Swank and Berry).

Sharon Stone needs plenty of rehab and therapy.

hboafficionado 01-26-04 08:08 AM

anybody here tape the Golden Globes. The reason I'm asking is that they showed a brand new Sopranos promo, and if you taped it and are able to post it online, it would benefit many fans. Thanks.

besides Bill Murray, I liked their acceptance speeches the best, especially the first one for best comedic series when he couldn't remember the name of the foreign press. hehe

I still can't believe that so many people are so amazed by this. Yes he has strong political views and objections to this administration - but he rarely discusses them unless pressed to do so - and I can't think of a single awards ceremony he's done so. The whole Baseball Hall of Fame thing was the most ridiculous extreme of that - because they banned him for what they thought he might say, when he had no intention of saying anything political...the night was about baseball - just as last night was about movies and television. He's a stand-up guy whether you like his politics or not....

And let me just say BOO to 24 winning best drama....i ranked that 5th out of the nominated shows....very lame imho.
