I gave my parents the DVD and the BD when those discs came out but they still make sure to watch the NBC broadcast every year.

I'm sure it will be an Amazon Prime "exclusive" sooner or later.

I want this to become a Peacock exclusive just so this forum and the media will have a fucking meltdown.

J/K of course.

This movie use to be public domain, before the studios found a sneaky way to buy the rights back. I always imagine studios and corporate business men secretly rooting for Potter.

Re: It's a Wonderful Life on NBC

I have never seen this but I taped it off E! last Dec on Directv and will watch it in December.

I hope since it was 3 hrs they did not edit anything out and it is a clean movie with no profanity.

Re: It's a Wonderful Life on NBC

I have still never watched It's a Wonderful Life to this day. I think it'll probably go to some streaming network exclusively as well and yeah I'm sure a lot of people will go nuts when its still readily available on physical media and streaming. I wish Christmas Eve on Sesame Street still played on tv every year but it won't and I'm fine with just watching it on dvd. It's the same idea.

I'm really surprised how people are reacting to the whole Peanuts thing. I have Hulu live, but I don't ever watch any of the 3 big networks. I've had all of the holiday specials and even It's a Wonderful Life on disc/digital for such a long time, that we start watching them all around the beginning of November...which is in a little more than a week from now!

Problem with putting all the old holiday specials behind a pay wall, is you lose half the intended audience(45+ age group). Majority of people in this age group, has no desire, basic technical knowledge or extra income to make the switch. Instead of robbing from broadcast TV, it would better if streaming services would focus more on bringing newer and better entertainment experiences to the current and next generations.

Not really a big fan of this movie personally. My parents do like it. They watch it when it’s on, but they also have it on VHS and DVD. It is another of those that would suck if it goes away though.

Same could be said about any big studio movies that play on tv during the season. Christmas Vacation, Home Alone, A Christmas Story, The Santa Clause, etc. I could see some of those moving eventually.

Home Alone is on HBO almost every day and not sure if it has a deal with a broadcast network?

If Home Alone would have any network deal it would be on ABC.

My family and I watch a Christmas movie every year on Christmas Eve. The movie will usually finish up so that there is about a half hour left of It's a Wonderful Life so we'll finish that up too. It allows me to do my George Bailey/Jimmy Stewart impression every year. It's a holiday tradition.

Just kidding.

I was going to make this same joke in the James Bond thread in MovieTalk but I couldn’t think of a decent way to streamline the joke so I didn’t bother.

I never saw It’s a Wonderful Life all the way through until I was in my 20s. Up to that point I’d only ever seen the last 30 minutes or so (you know, the only part of the movie everyone actually remembers). I was surprised there was so much more to the story than that when I finally watched the whole thing.

All that said, it’s not one of my favorites and really don’t bother trying to watch it every year. The best I can say is that maybe if I stumble upon it while channel surfing I’ll keep it on while I wrap presents or something.

Re: It's a Wonderful Life on NBC

E! will have a marathon on Christmas Day. 3 hrs and loaded with commercials for a 2hr and 12 minute movie.

I thought it was kind of slow and maybe the last 20 or 30 minutes when
Spoiler:
He might be in purgatory and sees how his life would be like if he was dead was the only really interesting in the movie but not enough to watch it over and over again since most of what came before it was boring.

Maybe I am cynical person and these and Hallmark movies don't work for me. I think it is way overrated for all the hype it gets.

Hallmark movies don't have this caliber of acting and directing:

Anyone who calls this movie saccharine really has never sat down and REALLY paid attention when watching it.
