Is it just me or does TV suck these days?

Seems like nothing is good on TV anymore! Boring stuff, loads of so called “reality” shows, loads of propaganda, nothing more! Hardly anything is worth watching or even downloading! About the only things I watch on TV are WWE Raw and Smackdown, and sometimes Simpsons and South Park (I always download new South Park eps). Sometimes King of the Hill. I rarely if ever watch anything else! I even downloaded a bunch of Jake 2.0 eps cause the preview sounded good, I watched the first 3-4 eps then I just deleted all I had without watching the rest cause the show sucked (Over 1gb of HQ mpegs).

Sounds like you need to stick to your pro wrestling. You wouldn't like Las Vegas, Angel, The Handler, Alias, Arrested Development or any of the other shows that we talk about in this forum.

Seriously though, expand your horizons. Try watching some TV instead of limiting yourself to things you can download for free (and illegally) on the 'net.

I only watch Angel, Simpsons, and the occasional Seinfeld rerun. I think you are right, there is too much garbage on TV. Oh well, that is why I love my DVD collection.

Out of all these I only know Angel (which can also be downloaded, but I haven't watched since S2)

We need some Class in the Enterprise threads.

It’s good to see that you separate “reality” shows from rasslin.

At least wrestling is promoted as “sports entertainment” and not a “reality” (and of course it’s a lot less boring)

I agree. I only watch 5 shows a week. (24, CSI, ER, Friends & Scrubs)
That list used to include Xfiles, Seinfeld, NYPD Blue, That 70's show and a few others, but I'm enjoying my DVDShows more.

I don't give new shows a shot until they come back for season 2. It ends up being a waste of time if something I enjoy ends up being cancelled after a few weeks.

I think the typical sitcom is dying. Network TV is turning in to being only Cop and Reality shows. And unfortunetly for me I am not of fan of either genre. This leaves very few shows for me to watch on network tv, so I watch cable instead.

I disagree also. I enjoyed and am enjoying some of the reality shows like...

American Idol
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy
Paradise Hotel
Average Joe

Then, you have great shows like...

Alias
24
Sopranos
Six Feet Under
Curb Your Enthusiasm
King of Queens
Simpsons
Everybody Loves Raymond
Smallville

I am sure that I could think of some more that I watch occasionally, but these are the ones that I watch religously or record on my PVR.

TV's always sucked...we just have a lot more channels now, which increases the amount of "suckage" per station.

Do you even have an actual TV?

IMO, the past 3-4 years have been very solid for TV viewing. This year is no different.

Why would you even look at network TV if you had a choice? There are a ton of good shows on cable tv. Network TV sucks. It has ever since the late 90's.

We are in the hey-day of dramas. I can never remember a period when there have been so many quality dramas on (network and cable) television.

Now it is just the opposite for comedies - so few good ones (particularly compared to the 70s and 80s).

"They just don't make them like they used to."

A phrase used once too often about TV, movies, music, comics, etc.

The fact of the matter is that every year has brought forth a couple of gems, a couple of real turkeys, and mostly a load of mediocre forgettable material. People who declare the 70's the heyday of comedy just don't remember watching stuff like the "San Pedro Beach Bums" or "Delta House" or the million other shows forgotten by time. Same goes for dramas.

Nostalgia is very selective. We tend to weed out the cr*p and overgush about things that were only okay at best. Even beloved shows like MASH or Happy Days or All in the Family lost steam after only a few years.

I disagree. I do not think that network TV has anything on HBO, but there are still plenty of great shows on the main networks. 24 and Alias come to mind immediately for me.

CSI is the most watched show on the tele. Personally, I do not know why, but lots of people seem to like it.

Wow.

Let's check the Tivo:

Angel
Friends
Scrubs
Will and Grace
Las Vegas
Alias
24
Queer Eye
The Dead Zone
Monk
That 70s Show
Smallville
Gilmore Girls

I actually think it's a great year for television.

It's just you, and the gazillions of other people who have whined the same damn argument for the past 50 years. I don't watch much TV myself, but I have gotten into buying season sets blind (after careful consideration), and I'm amazed at how good some of these things are ... Sopranos, Buffy, Oz, Angel, Alias. I've gotten only one turkey in about 10 attempts, so I'd have to say there's some pretty good damn stuff on TV in this day and age.

You just have to know how and were to find it, I guess, and quit making judgments without ever having sampled the product.

You'd rather watch film? There's some quality movies in the theatres. Not!

It's a matter of tastes. I wouldn't watching wrestling. I had enough of that 10 years ago.

I don't watch much TV, if I do, I watch older TV shows or cartoons ..-shrugs-

Too many reality based TV shows for me. Not enough long lasting sitcoms, like the old days.
