I think the typical sitcom is dying. Network TV is turning in to being only Cop and Reality shows. And unfortunetly for me I am not of fan of either genre. ...

That's how I feel a lot of the time. Because of this, I've found myself watching more and more sports when I watch TV and just flipping through channels looking for the least boring thing other times. Not to say that there aren't some interesting shows on. But, IMO, the overall quality and selection has dropped.

Living in an apartment for the past 4 months I haven't had access to cable TV since I share it with others who watch Network TV 24/7. I was able to watch MNF but I must admit I miss TLC, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, National Geographic Channel, & TechTV.

I didn't watch these channels all the time but they were the first ones I flipped to if I wasn't watching ESPNEWS, sports, or a movie. Luckily, I'll be in a new house in a couple weeks.

All they watch is crap (IMO) like Las Vegas, Law & Order, The Handler, CSI, Cold Case, Hack & any other crime drama. Not to mention reruns of M*A*S*H all the time. That is the worst part.

Sorry, just had to vent a little frustration.

I think the latest selection on tv is shocking bad and getting worse. Only programs that appeal to the lowest common denominator even have a shot at getting past 3 episodes and unfortunately (or not!) I don't like what the current mass audience finds appealing. We have about 100 channels and on most nights there is nothing to watch! Maybe Tivo is the solution

I have cable pretty much soley for sports. But I was never a huge TV watcher in general. Just a few shows here and there that I got into like X-files, Seinfeld, Homicide, Boomtown, E.R (off and on) etc.

I'd generally rather watch a movie or play a video game than watch one of the drama's or sitcoms on today. Plus reality tv doesn't appeal to me at all, and it's taking over the networks.

I agree, most all of the newer TV shows are terrible. Ironically most all of my favorite TV shows all star with S :

- Seinfeld (can't wait for these DVDs to come out)
- Simpsons (why oh why only 1 season a year on DVD?!)
- Star Trek : TNG (these never get old)
- Star Trek : DS9 (arguable the best Sci-Fi show ever!)
- Mystery Science Theater 3000 (Joel was the greatest!) <-- okay so it doesn't start with an S, but it was a damn good show.

I also love watching the Discovery channel, since they have a plethora of different types of interesting shows that are on.

Haven't seen Babylon 5?

(And, BTW, I happen to love DS9, too.)

I've been watching more tv than ever the last couple of years. I was hoping to get a pvr for Xmas, but I didn't. Maybe I will purchase one w/ my raise.

Like Boat Drinks said, "There has always been crap and always been works of genius."

I regularly watch:

10-8
Alias
Las Vegas
Everwood
Gilmore Girls
One Tree Hill
8 Simple Rules...
I'm With Her
Line of Fire
NYPD Blue
That 70's Show
The O.C.
Smallville
Angel
Friends
Scrubs
E.R.
Without a Trace
Ed
Third Watch

I eagerly await the return of Karen Sisco.

and every now and then I will check out:

Arrested Development
American Dreams
CSI: Miami
Two and a Half Men
The Tracy Morgan Show
Navy NCIS
According to Jim
Less Than Perfect
CSI
Jake 2.0
Good Morning, Miami
Run of the House
Threat Matrix
Tru Calling
What I Like About You
Grounded For Life

What can I say? I'm easily amused. And I have to enjoy it while I can before the wife has the baby at the end of the summer.

Wizdar-

Nope, I haven't seen Babylon 5. How good is it? Would you say it's a copy of Star Trek TNG and DS9?

I've been watching a lot more TV recently. So it can't be that the shows are getting worse, right? I like many of the reality shows in addition to the good scripted shows.

IMO, the overall quality of tv just keeps getting better and better. Right now it can be hard to find any absolutely amazing shows on tv, but there's so many shows on I consider to be pretty good. I think I'm watching more TV than ever before.

Somebody mentioned they're watching more sports because there's nothing else on. I've completely stopped watching sports because I'm enjoying so many other shows on TV so much more.

I would say there's a chance my standards have lowered, but I continue to be surprised at how bad movies have been the last couple years.

I have added B5 to my wish list so I can check it out later down the road. Just because of das & his sick fixation with the show.
