I found the way they killed Romano to be a bit cheesy. I mean, what are the chances that he would have his arm cut off by a helicopter, and have a helicopter fall out of the sky and kill him in his life time.
I was ready to turn the TV off when I saw him under the helicopter.

Neela seemed oddly happy at the end of the episode, enjoying the adventure despite the fact that several people she had just spoken to died horribly 30 seconds later, including the nurse getting skewered right in front of her, and the whirling rotors of a crashing helicopter missing her empty head by just inches.

I was pissed last night about Romano's death, because it was so cheesy. It might have been a little better if he had uttered an "oh, ****", but he screamed like a little girl. Anyhow that whole sequence w/ killing off his character was ridiculous. If it was Morris lying underneath the helicopter, then it would have completely acceptable
I've noticed that they have toned down on Frank's bigotry the last few weeks - that has been welcome.

Oh, and w/ Romano's death, this better not mean that Weaver is going to be spending more time in the E.R. They should just put Susan in charge of the damn thing. Laura Ines can direct episodes, I just don't want her to act in them for more than 15 or twenty seconds.

This could have been a great time for NBC to unleash the F-bomb by Romano just before he played Wiley Coyote to the helicopter.

Anyone have any behind the scenes info on why they killed off Romono? Contract up? Contract dispute? Unhappy with the direction of his storyline? Felt his story had run it's course? Tired of having a steady paycheck? I'm just curious as to who's idea it was--his or the producers.

I hated Romano in the JR Ewing love-to-hate-him type of way. Weaver I hate in the I want to blow up the writers cars for putting her in an episode kind of way. It sucks he had to go, oh well. I think they should of had Romano caught by shrapnel opposed to catching the helicopter.
I guess I am in the minority that is beginning to like some of the new faces, except Morris.

The next new ep will be 12/4/03 according to the ER website.
Paul McCrane has a great looking website - didn't know he was a composer as well.
During the commentary for "Robocop", Paul Veerhoven said that all the thug characters in the movie led by Clarrence Bodecker (Kurtwood Smith) were actually played by nice guys, McCrane included. I think Veerhoven was told by McCrane that he couldn't eat at restaurants anymore because people would tell him off for being such a "nasty guy" in the movie.
I liked the Romano character - without him, or Weaver for that matter, you had almost no conflict. Remember how the conflict rate went down when Eriq LaSalle left? Even though he was one of the good guys, he was very in-your-face, career comes first. My wife was glad to see Romano go, but I told her the frustrating thing was that he was a great surgeon, not some "Frank Burns" who would do the minimum for his patients and dump them. Actually, Romano's ego could write checks his skills could cash.
Don't worry - there are a lot of a**holes in the medical field. They'll find another Romano soon.

I couldn't believe it when the elevator doors opened, and not looking Romano stepped into that empty elevator shaft...
Oh wait. Wrong show but same cheesy death of a main character.

I was just wondering if the Romono character's exit from the show was similar to Henry Blake's death on MASH--the actor decides he wants to leave the show, so the writers decide it's a golden opportunity to kill off a character and ramp up the suprise/drama factor.
I was expecting someone to fish Romono's charred bionic arm out of the smouldering wreckage. Then when Sam's son wandered into the ER, I was REALLY expecting him to hold up the arm and say, "Cool, look what I found outside!"

I watched the episode last night to see why the helicopter blew up as I had seen in the commercials. When Romono left the roof and went outside, I hoped that they weren't going to do the painfully obvious lame thing and have the helicopter fall on him. And then they did. Was that supposed to be a dramatic moment? Because it came off more like one of those scenes with a boulder falling on Wile E. Coyote (they might as well have had him open a little umbrella).

I had visions of him taking a simultaneous dirt nap w/ Romano. He was sooooo close. Ah, well.
