Later he does feed on the dead corpse. Of course we know this is before Angel met Buffy and decided to be the "champion" that we here every episode about.

Angel never made Spike do anything, it was his nature. Granted he may have learned a lot from Angelus but he decided to follow in his footsteps.
Yeah, that's right. It's the episode she shows up and is traveling through his past memories with him or something when Cordy stole his soul and Angelus returned.

Now, what about the fact that Spike was William the poet before being turned? We know we owe Drusila for turning him but it seems to me that Dru did a lot of what Angelus wanted her too. Who's to say Angelus didn't pick him out to be turned? It seems obvious from the flashbacks that Angelus did all he can to make Spike as viscious as could be. He even taunted him about his name and advised him to choose another.

I'm not saying Angelus forced his every move but if you think on High School and peer pressure. A lot of people succumb to the pressure of their peers. Without that influence who knows how they would be. In this case, who knows what William would have done with his life had Dru and Angelus not come across him.

I'm reasonably sure Dru picked William out herself.

In Angel S2, "Darla," we see a flashback where Dru complains that she doesn't have a companion of her own, and that she wants to make one. She'll pick the bravest knight in the kingdom. Then Darla says "Or the first drooling idiot who comes along."

At that moment, a frustrated William cuts through the group and catches Dru's eye.

good call its pretty safe to say it was Dru's choice to turn William. Plus Dru doesn't seem the follower type, she is too nuts.
