yeah, i didn't think about that angle. That would be pretty cool i think. Hopefully at least they try doing something like this instead of just dropping it because of his memory loss....
MAN THIS WAS A GREAT EP!

Great episode.

How does ranting about complaints make you any less "whiny" or less of a "crybaby"?
Sorry, but the Lex is crazy plot seemed like it was trying to be confusing for the sake of tricking the audience. Part of the implausible things he saw were real. Part of the implausible things he saw were hallucinations. It reminded me of the Suspect show where Jonathan was accused of murder in season two.

I am losing faith in this show at an alarming rate. I have used my crystal ball and can tell you what happens on the next Smallville:
1. One, or possibly two, people will find out about Clark's secret.
2. Those two people will either be crazy, become crazy, die, or fall into a coma.
3. Lana will almost get killed, for the 1,234nd time since she turned 16. There will be no long-term physical or emotional damage done.
4. Lana and Clark will realize there is yet another obstacle to them being together. Pained looks of frustration will be exchanged.
5. Pete will not be shown. It is possible he is either crazy, will become crazy, dead, or in coma.
Using Cash's cover of NIN at the end was laugh-out-loud horrible. Lana being stomped by the crazy horse was bad. Julia Roberts' husband from Sleeping with the Enemy was bad.
On the plus side, MR did an OK job as Crazy Lex. Lionel was good as usual. No Lana for the first 30 minutes is something they should feature more often. And I was happy not to see a Freak of the Week.
Please don't post that I should stop watching this show, or that "it's just a TV show, it doesn't have to make sense". Smallville makes me feel more like a disappointed parent than an angry fan.

I agree pretty much 100% with the above. It's like too many of you have been desensitized by so many horrible episodes, that one that is just bad is now good.
Yet another episode that went nowhere. Edge comes back, only to be killed. Lex sees Clark rip up a car, only his short term memory is going to be completely erased. This is called plot development? In this episode, Edge could have been replaced by any of the previous freaks who discovered Clark's secrets, but ended up dead or in an institution.
While I think the writers will remember to put Lana in some crutches or something next episode, you can bet the bank on the fact that she and Clark will be back to normal. No emotional consequences for Lana, EVER. Lana should have busted out her Kung Fu on the horse. At least that would have been comical in addition to being ridiculous.
Every episode of Smallville seems to occur in a vacuum. It is indescribable really. Nothing which should have a consequence results in one.
This episode was marginally better than the last few. Not because there was actual plot development, because there wasn't, but because you could tell the writers were actually trying to move a storyline along.

I wanted to see Clark kick the horses ass while it was stomping Lana. I also think that Jonathon should grow back his sideburns.

Short recap:
Overall, a fast moving episode that touches on Lex's past with bouts of delusion and how it impacts his present has Lionel tries to head off Lex's digging into his past (with Morgan Edge as an accomplice) in burning down a building for the insurance money, while murdering Lex's grandparents in the process.
Chloe helps in providing some details of Lionel and Morgan's past involvement with the buidling fire.
Lana gets hurt badly, probably multiple leg fractures from being trampled by a spooked horse (Lex got paranoid and threw Lana into the stable while hiding out at the Smallville stables for the night).
Lex's paranoia gets worse and worse as he feels no one believes him, and only Clark is willing to prove that Lex isn't crazy, but the evidence to the contrary becomes almost overwhelming.
In the end, after Clark does some more investigating and gets Lex's guard to confess (about drugging Lex slowly through his scotch to produce his delusional state).
Clark tracks down Morgan Edge's whereabout, as does Lex. After a showdown between Lex and Edge, Clark shows up, but Edge is prepared with a string of kryptonite rocks and beats the crap out of Clark for a while, Lex gets the upper hand and shoots Edge, turns his attention to Clark, then Edge disappears, so Lex goes after him, and Edge tries to run Lex over as Lex shoots at the car through the windshield, but Clark pushes Lex aside and takes the full brunt of the car, and Lex finally sees what he has suspected all this time, that Clark does have super powers is pretty much indestructible. Edge is supposedly dead from Lex's shots (not sure yet).
Lex is put into a mental institution by Lionel, currently no one would believe what he saw regarding Clark's powers because he's still so delusional.
Lana is now convinced that bad things happen when she hangs with Clark, so she gives Clark the heave-ho for the time being. Clark is crushed.

I have a problem with "Hurt" at the end as well. I think they should have used Trent Reznor's original version instead of the late, great Johnny Cash version. NiN's version would have gone better with the "quietness" of the setting instead of Cash's overpowering rendition of it. Cash's rendition is just too loud and NiN's version starts off soft and grows in volume...much better for the scene, but what do I know?

Loved the show, so did my wife and kids. My kids (12 and 9) and my wife both smiled and laughed (I a good way) when they saw Lex's reation to Clark stopping the car.
The most touching moment in the show is when Lionel has tears in his eyes seeing his son hurting and locked up in a white room. Lionel is what I have grown up seeing Lex being in the comics.
Smallville is like watching a TV version of Superboy that was written for Marvel Comics. Clark is Peter Parker struggling with "With much power comes much responsibility". This is not to put down DC (I am a DC fan, not Marvel), but Marvel has always put the Heroes in a more human light than DC did (Until the 90's, then DC started giving their charcters more human problems).
Love Smallville and I cannot wait to see where this will all end...

Yeah my friend who is sound editor on the show is being laid off during the month of December. That explains why the show isn't showing in December.

Well, no, it's not like they shoot the episodes and air them 2 days later. I'm sure they've got several in the can that haven't aired yet. The reason why any show is in reruns through December is because TV viewership drops big time before the holidays and the break in air time allows them to get a few more episodes ahead in production. That way you avoid issues of tapes being run out to the satellite uplink center right before airtime. (Which actually happened once during Babylon 5's run...they were rendering SPFX until *right* before the sat uplink.)
The problem I have with this show is that they give every reason to believe that *nothing* will change as a result of anything that happens from week to week. Lex is about the only character that has any interest for me, because his motivations and dynamics change from week to week based on the situations around him.
Everyone else? Pretty much no change, it's the Trek reset button every week. Lana has been injured or placed in danger a dozen times over the series, only now does she start to notice Clark is bad news? And of course even those who absolutely love this show have got to be sick of the Clark/Lana back and forth with no growth.
Like Enterprise, I keep watching because I see there is a good show in there somewhere, but the writers and producers have got to have the guts to let the characters change.
